UPDATE: Matt Damon is Not Moving His Family to Australia to Get Away From Trump

UPDATE: 2:32 p.m. EST: Gossip Cop debunked the Page Six report that Matt Damon is fleeing to Australia to escape Donald Trump’s presidency.
There’s nothing accurate about any of this. A rep for Damon exclusively tells Gossip Cop the actor has not purchased a home in Australia. As for the bogus Trump angle, that aspect was seemingly concocted because the outspoken actor has voiced his disapproval of the president on several occasions. In 2016, Damon admitted the idea of Trump becoming president made him “nervous.” And during a CNBC interview in January, Damon said Trump has a “lot of work cut out for him.”

Back in the day (read: not even two years ago), many people threatened to leave the country if President Donald Trump was elected.
Now, one of Hollywood’s most prominent names is reportedly doing it.
Matt Damon is moving his family to Australia, in part because he’s had enough of Trump, Page Six reports.
According to The Daily Telegraph, Damon recently purchased property in Byron Bay, New South Wales, right next door to his friend Chris Hemsworth, of Thor fame.
“Matt’s saying the move will not impact his work — as he will travel to wherever his projects are shooting. He’s also telling friends he wants to have a safe place to raise his kids,” a source told Page Six.
Meanwhile, Damon has some other reasons to get out of dodge: He recently took a huge amount of flak from #MeToo supporters when he suggested that sexual assault allegations be judged “on a spectrum of behavior.”
“I really wish I’d listened a lot more before I weighed in on this,” he later said on Today. Ultimately, what it is for me is that I don’t want to further anybody’s pain with anything that I do or say. And so for that I’m really sorry.”
He and longtime friend and business partner Ben Affleck also adopted inclusion riders in their actors’ contracts, a move meant to encourage diversity but also fell on deaf ears due to the fact that Damon and Affleck are both white men who have been tangentially involved in muddy discrimination situations, particularly concerning Affleck’s brother Casey.
