Michael Grimm Will Reportedly Resign from Congress This Week

When Rep. Michael Grimm (R-NY) plead guilty to a tax fraud charge last week, he insisted that he would not be resigning from Congress. “As long as I am able to serve, I will serve,” he said.

But now, the New York Daily News is citing multiple sources who claim Grimm will offer his resignation some time this week. The paper’s Dan Friedman reports that Grimm will resign on Tuesday or Wednesday following a meeting with House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH).

Grimm’s tax evasion charge stems from evidence that he concealed more than $1 million in receipts and wages at a New York restaurant he owned before being elected to Congress. Before his recent ethics charges, Grimm was most famous for threatening to throw a NY1 reporter off a balcony.
