Pentagon, Everybody Else Confused By Mysterious Missile Launched Near California

So it seems like a missile was launched in Southern California. That’s certainly alarming enough as it is, but prepare to be doubly alarmed: nobody, not even the Pentagon, knows who launched it.

According to the AP, the magical mystery missile toured the California sky, and a CBS affiliate captured footage of it via helicopter.

Pentagon spokesman Col. Dave Lapan confirmed that the missile isn’t a threat to national security. But he also said:

Nobody within the Department of Defense that we’ve reached out to has been able to explain what this contrail is, where it came from. So far, we’ve come up empty with any explanation.

Crazy. The LA Times has more (though not by much) on the story, as does the video below, which includes clips from a rather speculative CBS affiliate and from Fox News.

I keep hearing about this launch but nobody is asking this question…..where did it go?

Simple physics – what goes up, must come down . So….where did it come down? Its not likely that, despite their protestations otherwise, they don’t already know what it is but just for the sake of argument, if they don’t know what it is, wouldn’t finding it wherever it fell answer that?

The person KFMB-TV found to speculate on what it was — a former NATO Ambassador –last served in the NIXON administration. Aren’t there any missile experts in the San Diego area who have experience in the past quarter century?

Best explanation (for me) is that it’s the contrail from an airplane.

Reportedly, people living south of the contrail didn’t report anything since it appeared to be, for them, a horizontal plume from a plane going travelling horizontally. But an optical illusion led folks north of the trail to view it as a vertical plume and making it look like a missile going up.
