Rumors of de Blasio’s Weed Habit Allegedly Coming from NYPD

So Gawker is honing in on the source of those rumors that claim New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio still smokes marijuana on a regular basis. As he told The Daily Caller yesterday, he has not smoked marijuana since his time at college at NYU. And according to Gawker, it’s the police officers who protect the mayor’s home that are spreading those rumors.

Writer J.K. Trotter said the fact that it’s the police officers spreading the rumor “does not necessarily make them untrue, or unworthy of more reporting,” but said it is “obvious” that the NYPD just wants to “undermine and embarrass” de Blasio to distract from the department’s “well-documented brutality.”

So, in light of all of this, de Blasio tweeted the following “Throwback Thursday” image on Twitter — from him in college, no less:
