Satanists Would Like a Monument on the OK Capitol Building Too, Please
A New York-based Satanic group is seeking $20,000 in funding to erect a monument to their dark deity at the Oklahoma capitol building.
Why there? Because the Oklahoma legislature authorized the erection of a Ten Commandments monument, donated by state representative Mike Ritze (R) and currently mounted on the north side of the building. The ACLU has filed suit against the religious display on government grounds, and to drive home their point, the Satanic Temple would like to offer their monument.
“By accepting our offer, the good people of Oklahoma City will have the opportunity to show that they espouse the basic freedoms spelled out in the Constitution,” the group’s fundraising site said. The Temple intends to make the monument a playground for young children. (Pentagram merry-go-round? Just spitballin’.)
“He’s helping a satanic agenda grow more than any of us possibly could,” Lucian Greaves, the group’s spokesman, said of Ritze. “You don’t walk around and see too many satanic temples around, but when you open the door to public spaces for us, that’s when you’re going to see us.”
Maybe, but as of this writing the group has raised only $120 of their hoped-for $20K. Their guy is better at destroying stuff, anyway.
