Sorry to Disappoint, But Powdered Alcohol May Not Be Approved After All

A few days ago, the U.S. Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau approved “powdered alcohol” to be sold in liquor stores. The company Palcohol, which sells powdered alcohol in flavors like rum and Kamikaze, said they’d be selling as early as this fall. Well, it turns out there was a slight error in the approval of powdered alcohol, in that technically, they didn’t mean to approve powdered alcohol in the first place. So that’s awkward.

A representative for the TTB sent an e-mail to the AP explaining that the approval for powdered alcohol was just an error and they didn’t mean to approve it. Palcohol’s parent company said “there seemed to be a discrepancy on our fill level, how much powder is in the bag,” and they’re going to reapply for approval.

Palcohol gave up the earlier approvals for its product, so sorry to disappoint, fans of alcohol in non-liquid form, but this might take a while longer to become a reality…
