The ‘Rent Is Too Damn High’ Guy Is Alive And Kicking – Crashes CPAC
Did you know that Jimmy McMillan, onetime New York gubernatorial candidate for the “Rent is Too Damn High Party,” is also running for President this year, as a Republican apparently? Yes sir, he is, and he took his campaign all the way to the Conservative Political Action Convention today, crashing an event at a hotel conference room there to command everyone there to “renounce every Republican Presidential candidate” and just endorse him or he “will vote for Barack Obama.” It gets better from there.
About a half hour ago, after a weird day at CPAC that included a Crossfire reunion of sorts and will conclude with Sarah Palin as the keynote speaker, Twitter started to rumble with rumors that McMillan had arrived, seemingly out of nowhere, seemingly armed to the teeth with rhetorical material that he did not need prompting to unleash on whoever happened to be around.
And my sentiments, nicely summarized:
So yes, it is true that McMillan was there. He called for the rejection of all Republican candidates. Security tried to remove him, but authorities had to assure a bewildered guard that he paid his convention ticket into the room, while McMillan yelled “are you working with Mr. T?” and threatened to “body slam” her. The crowd appeared confused as he called for himself elected, “an American president,” perhaps courting the birther vote with that line, while courting the Occupiers with his attacks on banks.
Thankfully, Garrett Quinn caught some of the surreal moment on tape and had it up and running in no time, so the rest of the world could experience what it’s like to have a political conference crashed by someone calling himself a “food stamp recipient” as a way to attack one of the convention’s speakers. In Quinn’s words, he should know better than to indulge McMillan, but it’s just too damn loud.
