After stunning reports dropped Tuesday night revealing that Secretary of State nominee Mike Pompeo met secretly with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un over Easter weekend, President Donald Trump took to Twitter to confirm the trip.
“Mike Pompeo met with Kim Jong Un in North Korea last week,” he wrote. “Meeting went very smoothly and a good relationship was formed. Details of Summit are being worked out now. Denuclearization will be a great thing for World, but also for North Korea!”

The Washington Post report on the meeting came after Trump revealed to reporters at Mar-a-Lago that the U.S. had initiated “talks” with the Hermit Kingdom at “extremely high levels.”
“We’ve also started talking to North Korea directly. We have had direct talks at very high levels, extremely high levels, with North Korea,” he said. “I really believe there is a lot of good will, good things are happening — we’ll see what happens.”
The White House declined to comment on the trip Tuesday night.
Yesterday, the White House said the administration doesn’t comment on the CIA director’s travel. https://t.co/sxOs9Z1gNq
