Trump Reportedly Talked to Jeff Sessions’ Chief of Staff About Replacing Jeff Sessions as AG

President Donald Trump has apparently been talking about replacing Attorney General Jeff Sessions with the Attorney General’s own chief-of-staff Matt Whitaker.
According to a Washington Post report, the president has been talking to Whitaker about taking over his current boss’ job.
WaPo reports:
The conversation between Trump and Matt Whitaker was somewhat nebulous, the people said. It was not clear, for example, whether Whitaker would take over on an interim basis or be nominated in a more permanent capacity, or how definitive the president’s intentions were.
Trump talking to Session’s own chief-of-staff about replacing him comes after the massive string of insults Sessions has had to endure from Trump, who has made no bones about his dissatisfaction with the attorney general especially after he recused himself from the Russian probe.
Just last month, Trump even went as far as to say “I don’t have an attorney general. It’s very sad,” during an interview with Hill.TV.
Sessions has largely repaid Trump’s barrage of indignities by attempting to weather the storm and carry out Trump’s agenda, even praising Trump in a recent speech.
“Under his strong leadership, we are respecting police again and enforcing our laws,” Sessions said, according to a written version of the speech last week, according to WaPo. “Based on my experience meeting with officers like you across the country, I believe that morale has already improved under President Trump. I can feel the difference.”
It is unclear from the WaPo’s report just how serious Trump may have been about actually replacing Sessions with Whitaker or what his true intentions may have been.
