Wasted Guy vs. Flip-Flop: Today’s Viral Video, Tomorrow’s Political Ad

A new viral video, featuring an apparently chemically impaired Coachella attendee locked in mortal combat with a flip-flop, is burning up cyberspace. The aptly titled “Wasted Guy vs. Flip-Flop” has logged over 150,000 views in just 24 hours.

The video is hysterical, but it also has the potential to bring back that 2004 political staple, the flip-flop attack ad. Just picture this video with a text overlay of any candidate’s shifting positions, and “Voila!” The next “Demon Sheep!”

I’ve never been a fan of the flip-flop attack, mainly because the label is applied indiscriminately. A candidate who changes positions based on pure political calculus is worthy of derision, but I’ve never gotten the appeal of a candidate who never, ever changes his or her mind. The ability to modify your position based on new information, personal growth, or changes in other variables is actually a desirable quality.

Still, if you’re going to run a flip-flop attack, it may as well be one that will make you spit your drink.

Love your work usually, Tommy, but this is a stretch of a post.

We know its primary purpose is to see off that you are “with it,” but this video is already ancient online.

Now if you posted it Monday night, maybe.

Regarding your point, I totally agree with you.

(Amen to this: “The ability to modify your position based on new information, personal growth, or changes in other variables is actually a desirable quality.”)

The Flip Flop meme was invented to take down Kerry. You are still playing into a GOP talking point, 8 years after the fact. Time to retire the entire phrase for politicans on the left and the right.
