UPDATE: This is a mess:

Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein has resigned, according to several reports. To make matters confusing, some outlets have reported he has not resigned.
Per Axios, Rosenstein “verbally resigned to Chief of Staff John Kelly in anticipation of being fired by President Trump.”
A second source told Axios reporter Jonathan Swan that Rosenstein is “expecting to be fired” and plans to step down from his position.
ABC News’ Mike Levine reported Rosenstein is “is currently on his way to the White House, expecting to be fired once he gets there.”

Fox News is reporting, however, that Rosenstein has not yet resigned, and is heading to the White House expecting his firing:
From @johnrobertsFox “A SOURCE FAMILIAR WITH THE SITUATION SAYS ROSENSTEIN IS HEADING TO THE WHITE HOUSE – EXPECTING TO BE FIRED. HE HAS NOT VERBALLY RESIGNED…”

NBC News also contradicted the Axios reporting:
.@PeteWilliamsNBC is reporting on @MSNBC that Rosenstein is heading to the WH. But that he *won’t resign,* according to Williams’ reporting.
Rosenstein will demand that if the WH wants him gone, they’ll have to fire him.

The bombshell news comes days after it was reported by multiple outlets that Rosenstein suggested invoking the 25th Amendment to remove Trump from office, and even proposed wearing a wire to record his conversations with the president.
Rosenstein, it must be reminded, oversees Special Counsel Robert Mueller‘s investigation.
