In case you haven’t heard (I’m just kidding, you’ve heard), last night was Larry King’s final episode. To help honor the man, David Letterman gave him the commemoration you’d expect, a hilarious highlight reel of some of Larry King Live’s least prestigious moments. Hearing Robert Blake accuse Larry of having sex with an elephant will never not be funny.

Not many people can get two Presidents of the United States, Ryan Seacrest, Dr. Phil, Barbara Walters, Donald Trump, and Brian Williams, among others, one program, but tonight, Larry King pulled it off for the final Larry King Live of the program’s 25-year run…and closed his last show by thanking everyone who helped make it happen.

It seems no one is immune to former president Bill Clinton‘s Southern charm– even the couple who lost the White House to him. In today’s special Larry King exclusive with George H.W. and Barbara Bush, both the former President and First Lady heaped praise upon the Clinton clan, thankful for the easy transition of power and the “really good personal relationship” that developed between the families.

Since the 2008 presidential campaign, rumors have swirled that Secretary of State Hillary Clinton could take Vice President Joe Biden’s position, with Biden sliding into Clinton’s current role, despite denials from the White House. Tonight, Biden appeared on Larry King Live and attempted – again – to put that rumor to rest.

In a sneak peak of tonight’s Joy Behar Show, outgoing CNN host Larry King discusses with Behar an assortment of tangential topics. He starts off by asserting to Joy, “I made you.” With that out of the way, they talk Frank Sinatra, the differences between “a Jew and an Italian,” and why Joy Behar would never want to be a WASP.

At the recent Nevada Cancer Institute gala, CNN anchor Larry King, who leaves his long-running show in December, waxed nostalgic about newspaper and the old way of consuming news — and said that he doesn’t care much for Twitter, Facebook, or other social media. The Las Vegas Sun reports.

Piers Morgan Tonight, the program that will replace Larry King Live in January 2011, began to take shape this morning, when CNN announced that TV vet Jonathan Wald will serve as Morgan’s executive producer.

What does it say about your reputation for taking a hard question when your interview confuses old clips of your behavior with live events? Temperamental Wikileaks founder Julian Assange had to bear being talked to in the third person for a few seconds tonight as Larry King mistakenly assumed that old footage of him walking out on CNN International’s Atika Shubert was live footage of Assange walking out on him.

After walking out on CNN International’s Atika Shubert when asked about his sexual molestation charges in Sweden, Wikileaks’ Julian Assange once again sat down with the network, this time with Larry King who, while initially seeming nearly sympathetic to the Wikileaks cause, held Assange accountable for the trivialization of his molestation charges more than any journalist had been able to yet.

Jon Stewart went on Larry King Live last night to discuss several topics, among them Stewart’s upcoming rally, his new book, and Rick Sanchez‘ firing from CNN – in which, of course, Stewart accidentally played a part. Dis he think Sanchez deserved his fate? Well…not at all.

Talking to Larry King, Stewart explained why his rally is not “Anti-Glenn Beck,” took aim at NPR for banning employees from attending…and made fun of CNN.

The story of the 33 Chilean miners who were rescued over the past 24 hours is indisputably inspiring and heartwarming. Michael Moore agrees with that assessment: “In a time when there’s not a lot of good news, for something like this to happen, I think, makes people feel really good,” he told Larry King last night. But Moore didn’t stop there.

Two popular TV pundits on opposite ends of the spectrum, who usually appear on Fox News, battled it out on Larry King Live about some very serious issues – and did it without yelling and with friendly banter throughout.

A discussion over whether Pres. Barack Obama believes in God led to Ann Coulter‘s programming choice to replace Larry King.

…And that’s why he’s the best. Last night, before Rick Sanchez went into his normal end-of-show plug for Larry King Live, he ‘casually’ mentioned his new book, Conventional Idiocy. Who would blame him; you’ve got the air time, use it.

Being the cordial gentleman (free-book-wanter?) that he is, Larry King asked Sanchez to send him a copy of the book, since he loved the title.

Sanchez obliged and said that he looked forward to discussing the book with King, presumably to get his thoughts. But before King could answer, Sanchez suggested, hey, why not do it on your show? And boom, that’s how Rick Sanchez booked himself a spot across from those legendary suspenders.

CNN staple Larry King decided to hang up the suspenders earlier this summer and vacate the network’s 9PM spot, with new host Piers Morgan to replace him in the fall. The New York Post is reporting that, due to “visa issues” (Morgan is a UK citizen), King will stay until the end of the year and “jumped at the chance” to. Except, outside of the Post’s exclusive “sources,” there seems to be no evidence for this.

Dr. Laura Schlessinger went on CNN’s Larry King Live last night to announce she is quitting radio so she can “regain” her First Amendment rights to say offensive things without people complaining about it . . . or something like that.

Sometime between musician Wyclef Jean‘s announcement on CNN that he will be running for President of Haiti and Sean Penn‘s very clear non-endorsement, Wyclef and Wolf Blitzer were talking about the financial problems the candidate has in the United States.

Then Wolf started speaking Creole and things just got awkward.

It’s official, and straight from the horse’s mouth this time: musician Wyclef Jean is running for president of Haiti. Jean joined Wolf Blitzer on Larry King Live tonight to explain his decision and what he offers to the people of Haiti.

Will the Tea Party movement would help or hurt the GOP in the coming midterm elections? This was the discussion on Larry King Live last night, particularly in light of the a Tea Party billboard that recently showed up in Iowa that likened President Obama to Vladimir Lenin and Adolph Hitler. Predictably, the discussion was less of an enlightening exchange of ideas, but rather a maddeningly — and entertaining — meltdown of soundbite accusations and jabs between two obstinate sides in the debate.

God, we’re going to miss Larry King Live. Not only did King seriously make this writer’s day recently, he’s now given us this wonderful moment from his interview with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. King asked Netanyahu about the video of Israeli soldiers dancing to a Ke$ha song that has been getting a lot of headlines. Why is this clip so great? Not because King gets an insightful answer. Just because it would never air on any show that doesn’t have the word “live” in the title. Also, it made me laugh.

As iconic news host Larry King prepares to make his exit later this year, much has been and will continue to be written about how King’s time as king of cable news is long gone.

People will talk about his softball interviews, laugh at his out-of-touch moments, point to his massive ratings declines. But while this goes on over the next few months, quite possibly here at Mediaite as well, remember what makes Larry King great too. Here’s my favorite Larry King moment ever.

Welcome to the installment installment of our summer series in which we head back into the Mediaite Vault (*cough* the Internet *cough*) to find some choice moments showing our favorite media personalities back when their journalism hit a little less hard. Consider it meeting the press before they were the press. This time we take a look at a very young Larry King as he takes on some gangsters back in 1961 and (SPOILER ALERT!) loses.

Well, that didn’t take long: in his hour-long chat with old pal Bill Maher, Larry King answered the first question that popped into most minds when he announced his upcoming departure: who he would like to see take the coveted 9 PM spot. The somewhat surprising answer? American Idol host Ryan Seacrest.

After Larry King announced this evening that he would be stepping down from the 9 PM spot, it was pretty much a given that tonight was going to be special. To help him begin what will likely be an entire summer of goodbyes, King had Bill Maher on the show to help him explain his decision to step down.

Larry King announced today, via his blog and Twitter page, that he would be ending his long-running iconic CNN show in the fall.

He will stay “part of the CNN family,” but now CNN will have a major prime time facelift in the wake of Campbell Brown leaving and Eliot Spitzer and Kathleen Parker coming in.
