For the segment of the NY population whose thirst of anti-Weiner vitriol has not yet been properly slaked, we present the following report from the NY Post. It seems that recently disgraced (and former House Representative) Anthony Weiner not only has a lot of free time on his hands now that he has resigned, but that he recently purchased flowers for his pregnant wife Huma from a local bodega. The outrage? They were cheap flowers. For shame!

Yesterday the NY Post raised a lot of eyebrows with a report suggesting that Morning Joe hosts Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski approached Time Warner CEO Jeff Bewkes during Tuesday’s Mirror Awards and pitched the idea of moving the morning duo to CNN. This morning the report was addressed on Morning Joe and Scarborough provided about as strong a rebuke as one could imagine, claiming that the NY Post reporter Claire Atkinson “chose to lie.”

An intrepid NY Post reporter recently caught up with embattled congressional member Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-NY) and asked if he was still planning on remaining in office after numerous calls for his resignation have recently emerged. A still-contrite but steady Weiner reaffirmed his intentions to stay in office until the end of his term. When asked about recent reports of his wife’s pregnancy, Weiner declined to offer any comment.

The NY Post‘s Andrea Peyser offers an interesting explanation for Keith Olbermann‘s departure from MSNBC that has not been heard since he left 10 days ago: she blames Ben Affleck. As we’ve outlined before, there seems to have been numerous factors at play in the split between MSNBC and the firebrand host, but to air out a litany of allegations and somehow link them back to his dismissal from MSNBC seems to be entirely unfair.

Earlier today, word broke that Sidney Harman is buying Newsweek from the Washington Post Company. Now, several outlets — including Politico’s Mike Allen and the New York Post’s Keith J. Kelly — are reporting that the magazine’s editor, Jon Meacham, will be leaving after the sale, presumably freeing up the most influential magazine editor and best-selling author to focus on his new PBS program, Need To Know.

Earlier this week, CNN’s Larry King announced that he was planning on retiring from his nightly broadcast later this year. King made clear his intentions to continue to be part of the CNN family, with plans of “hosting several specials on major national and international subjects.” But according to a report in today’s NY Post, King might also be considering a new career move: product pitchman.

This should be fun. In a commencement address at Virginia’s Hampton University yesterday, President Obama fed meme-hungry media types the kind of quote they can really sink their teeth several millimeters into. The NY Post already has the President “declaring war on technology,” and Fox News says he “Warns Grads of iPad Peril.” The combination of über-pop-buzzword “iPad” and lightning-rod POTUS is almost irresistible, with even the Huffington Post missing the point of what Obama was really saying.

Sometimes the best laid plans get undone in the most pedestrian way. Tonight news broke of Harold Ford‘s decision not to run for New York Senate office currently held by Kristen Gillibrand. The once rising star in the Democratic party had a rough number of weeks in the NY press and blogs, and even his announcement not to run somehow, and fittingly, didn’t work out quite like it was supposed to.

As I reported yesterday, the media sharks are circling Countdown, hoping for a quick meal. Since then, Newsbusters and the NY Post joined the dogpile, prompting another rebuttal from host Keith Olbermann. The message? Countdown is doing just fine, thank you, and these critics are just part of the right-wing noise machine. He’s mostly right, but that doesn’t mean he should ignore them.

Who says there’s no such thing as a little shoe-leather reporting these days? Headline-happy tabloid the New York Post is reporting today that Yankees captain Derek Jeter is set to marry his girlfriend, the actress Minka Kelly, on November 5th. But it wasn’t an insider tip or publicist leak that got them the story — it was good old-fashioned deception: a Post reporter merely posed as “a bride-to-be seeking to book a wedding!”

Despite rumors of slumping newsstand, a persistent ad recession, and a nasty harassment allegation, the NY Post still delivers on what it does best: evidenced in the front page headline on today’s paper that concerns the failed attack of Flight 253. Update – It appears that Gawker Weekend Editor Foster Kamer made the same exact joke over the weekend!

The NY Post alleged yesterday that Monday’s health care event held on the White House lawn was fraudulent and staged, specifically claiming that white lab coats were passed to attending doctors by WH staffers.

Earlier today, we tried to answer Ed Morrissey’s question “Why Was NY Post the Only Outlet to Report ‘White Coat-gate?” Initially, we thought the answer was that the story simply wasn’t newsworthy. It turns out it wasn’t even true.

Being Phil Mushnick ought to be exhausting. His “Equal Time” column, a cranky collection of gripes that generally coalesce around the topic of sports media, runs thrice weekly in the New York Post. That’s a lot of outrage for one writer to manufacture!

9/11 is a date that has come to represent a lot of complicated ideas. Memories of the attack come with a real sense of unity and global support that immediately followed. Suddenly it became a political football, used to exemplify a lack of patriotism (or a pre-existing bias). But judging by the coverage in today’s Newspapers, we seem to have moved on, or have at least started the process…

This morning’s New York Post report that Bernie Madoff was dying of pancreatic cancer spread like wildfire through the news, based only on quotes from anonymous inmates. As it turns out, the Post‘s “jailbirds” were far from reliable sources. The Federal Bureau of Prisons responds with an unequivocal rejection.

As the debate over health care reform continues to dominate the news, there is the inevitable criticism of media bias from both sides of the aisle. Aside from their editorial pages, the Wall Street Journal is well known for its unique focus on reporting facts, keeping its reputation as an unbiased source of news untarnished. But since its acquisition by Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp. two years ago, has the WSJ succumbed to the alleged bias that has afflicted other News Corp. properties Fox News and the NY Post?
