Again? CNN’s Anderson Cooper Reports His Car Has Been Attacked In Cairo

The tension in the streets of Cairo has not changed, with CNN’s Anderson Cooper reporting the vehicle he and his CNN crew were traveling in was set upon and attacked. “Situation on ground in #egypt very tense. Vehicle I was in attacked. My window smashed. All ok,” the AC 360 host reported via Twitter just about 12:45 Thursday.

Cooper spent most of Wednesday night reporting from an undisclosed location for safety after being repeatedly punched in the head during an attack by members of a pro-government mob.

Today’s incident comes amid widespread reports that journalists in Egypt have been targeted not only for harassment and physical violence, but also arrest. As The New York TimesNicholas Kristof warned, “to my reporting brethren in Egypt: there are reports that police are raiding hotels looking for journalists. Be careful!”

Is he hanging around vulnerable parts of town so that he will be attacked and can spend the night talking about it on CNN.

  • George Sore-ohs

He claims to have been punched ten times in the head the first night. When you look at him he doesn’t look worse for the wear.

Either he is lying or the dangerous thugs that were punching him just gave him a noogie

I think it’s brave journalists are there… but it’s pretty dangerous. That almighty scoop is important though, if Anderson gets video of something really historic or newsworthy, he’ll be remembered forever. The only problem is that he could also be killed, then it becomes historic and newsworthy for all the wrong reasons.

  • The Lantern of Truth

    RRKING will handle this .

    LEAVE ANDERSON ALONE !!!!!!!

Ugh is this the scientific method of the right? Yikes.

I think it’s pretty sad and pathetic that you think Anderson Cooper is lying and want him to get hurt, just because of his politics.. gah it’s a sad world :-/

  • The Lantern of Truth

RRKING back . He was just beaten up by that thug Peewee Herman last month !

When I saw it yesterday the first thing I thought of was Anderson in Haiti or Anderson on the Gulf last year.

He is a pushy, in your face pain in the butt who I might hit if he was to ask me how it feels to dig through the rubble of my house. He has no sense of priority or his priority is always that his news is more important than those living the news.

  • errxn

Anderson, I think at this point you may want to consider using the journalistic practice known as ‘getting the fuck out of there quickly.’

    LOL .
It’s not the story that’s the story . It’s the people that report on the story that are the story. Right now editors are putting together clips for their next self congratulatory awards show .

Are there any Fox News people in Egypt? Or any conservatives covering what’s going on?

His car must have really pissed them off.

Nope. They’re all hiding in the comfort of their warm, heated studios far away from the action. Shep, while a great desk anchor, hardly ever goes out on the scene. Greta is also sitting comfortably at her desk, reading the teleprompter like the good little robot she is. CNN, on the other hand, has their top anchors (both CNN and CNNi) on the ground.

Good for Anderson. The story is most important and risk is part of the job.
Kudos, dude. Keep up the good work.

^ The above was for Snowspot’s comment “Are there any Fox News people in Egypt? Or any conservatives covering what’s going on?”

I just keep wondering… WHERE ARE THE REPUBLICANS?

They are supposed to be so brave but they don’t even go to Egypt and they mock the people who are brave enough to.

It’s beyond pathetic…. borderline embarrassing that the entire party steers clear of the middle east when they made it their job to try and take it over during the Bush admin.

You call Anderson a wuss? You’re whole party wussed out of going to Egypt… BWAHAHHA the Liberals are the ones with balls, it’s how it’s always been but you’re all so fucked up you make excuses to yourself why liberals are “weak” nah the reason Republicans will always be weak is cause they are terrifed of change, they want things to be like the olden days. Liberals aren’t afraid of things changing.. that’s why they are superior.

Hey you or the system gave snowspot credit for my great wordsmithing. ;-)

  • Obeezy

How is he the only one that gets beat up and attacked? Seems Katie Curic was in more danger. Well according to the footage both of them shot. Kudos for him going over there, but he is NOT the story and he should remember that!!

    Here’s what’s going in Egypt:

The other report by Nicholas Kristof adds to what is happening. Mubarak is getting ready to CRACK DOWN.

And you guys are making fun of this? To score political points? I thought commentators on other boards were bad, but this IS a new low.

Anderson, how do you expect to get a show on TV News’ promised land (FOX), if you don’t start Manning-Up?

  • writer

Anderson does sort of stick out over there. Maybe if he wore a burqa.

while I agree it is nothing to kid about I would like to point out one thing to you. This is not a political board. It is a Media Board and we here are commenting on a media personality and his reporting of events.

Anderson’s car gets attacked and Mediaite has an immediate posting, but Greg Palkot from FNC is hospitalized and they don’t say a word. John Roberts reported on Fox today:

What else did you expect, libra? It’s the Mediaite agenda, don’t you know. They don’t care about anyone who works for Fox News.

Ah what a bunch of brave souls. Sitting in front of your computers debating over Cooper being punched or not being punched. Like him or hate him, the man is there in the midst of chaos with no idea if he will be safe or not. How many of you would go there willingly?
I’d wager most of you, if you were there, would be pushing each other aside trying to get a seat on the first plane out.

  • Knowledge_Is_Power

    @ Libra

Dan Abrams was on CNN with Spitzer the other night. You scratch my back and I’ll scratch yours sound familiar!?

  • Leftist Asshat

I have breaking news from twitter that Anderson Cooper has just been captured by pro Mubarak leather clad thugs:
    http://joelgordon.photoshelter.com/image/I000087S4M0bnzig

  • Knowledge_Is_Power

    @ Jayson

It is Anderson’s choice to be there reporting. He chose to go in the first place and then chose to stay after CNN wanted him to leave after being attacked yesterday. Please don’t think he is there by himself with no security…are you joking!? He had security the day he was attacked and I am sure it is tripled now. He has better security than anyone else there.

On top of that the man earns around 5 mill a yr…so he is paid VERY well for what he is doing today. In fact he makes 5 mill because they want him doing what he is doing today as it brings in ratings. That 5 mill affords him a luxury penthouse, a Hampton home, a firehouse and God knows what else. So don’t think anyone here should be crying tears of fear for the man. He is paid well for the situations he gets in. It’s part of his job.

And no, we aren’t over there because we aren’t journalists. Instead of harping to us about our supposed “faults” why don’t you look at yourself. Why aren’t you over there arm chair blog policeman!?

  • libra blue

@Knowledge_Is_Power, “Dan Abrams was on CNN with Spitzer the other night. You scratch my back and I’ll scratch yours sound familiar!?”

Funny thing is, I remember “Danny Boy” smacking down Anderson on his MSNBC show all the time for the same types of stunts.

I wonder how many posts Mediaite will do on Palkot’s injuries? I doubt they will even follow it up.

However, I am never in favor of any journalist being attacked or intimidated by anyone, whether I agree with him/her or not.

Not concerned about how much security he has, nor how much money he makes, its his job. If he choses not to do it fine, if he choses to stay there fine. My point in my post was missed completely so I won’t bother to expand on it.
As for why I am not over there and me being an armchair blogger. I could not be over there even if I wished to & I can only be an “arm chair blog policeman” when I am able. I am a vision impaired person. I am restricted to what my eyes will let me do (see) at the moment. They don’t often co-operate.
I hope that answers your question.

How dare you insult Anderson Cooper’s journalistic integrity like that, implying that he’s in it for the money! Anderson does is it for the love of the story…plus he enjoys getting beat up a little(no bruises plz)!

Besides, Anderson makes more money in one day then what CNN is paying him from Vanderbilt Jeans!

Go to the web and look for yourself. He was hit multiple times. Maybe MORE than 10. I swear people on this board are bigger morons than normal TV Viewers.

    call BULLSHIOT.
The protesters are NOT freedom fighters They are Kefaya…a movement that is a cabal of Marxists , Nessarists, and other nasty far left groups teamed up with Islamic radical groups like the Muslim Brotherhood.
Their claim that Mubarak is a traitor is that he SIGNED A PEACE TREATY WITH ISRAEL , which the…y all hate.
Their claim that Mubarak is holding controlled elections stems from his and the majority of Egyptians, OUTLAWING RELIGOUS POLITICAL PARTIES.
Their claim that he tortures his own people is about Mubarak’s staunch fight against terrorism and rendition that we in fact are doing right now.

The Mubarak suppoerters are the pro-West , the anti Mubarak protesters are the America and west haters. And they hate captialism and our freedoms just as much as Israel

  • dahni

Anything to get attention! Imagine deciding to go into a war zone, with your entourage of cameras and sound men and make up persons, and then complaining that some of the war dirt stuck on you! And then to go into an Islamic country where most of the people in the street don’t like American anyway, and complaining that they didn’t show you enough ‘love’! What a bunch of newscaster? twits! LOL

  • dahni

Of course all the newscasters? think the chaos in Egypt is especially happening so they can report it.. No other reason for the activity….

  • nam

    M Colins said:

He didn’t say he’d been punched ten times in the head, he said on video that he’d been hit “like ten times” and he later described being punched a number of times (it may have been less than ten, not all of those estimated “hits” he talked about in the video may have been full scale “punches”). A lot of his head is covered in hair that would hide bruising. We are also only seeing the front of his head when he does reports. Presumably they also brought some make up concealer with them, and if he didn’t cover up bruising people would be bitching that he is looking for attention and sympathy by showing injuries on air.

The FOX News journalists joined the party late over there, they have not been where people are finding they can look for location reports on Egypt, and the beaten correspondents have not seemed to have been able to provide reports from or about the scene of their incident so they naturally have not gotten as much attention yet as the first reporters to report dust ups and the reporters who have documented footage of dust ups, threats and harassment they’ve been through.

The government is cracking down on journalists to stifle the press and stop the flow of true information to the rest of the world. Even arab journalists are being targeted, everyone with a camera is at risk (as well as all the anti-dictatorship protestors, of course).
