Andrew Sullivan: ‘I’m Too Terrified For The Country’ To Urge Palin To Run Because She Could Win

Video

Chris Matthews doubted Sarah Palin‘s ability to be elected President, just days after doubting the chances of any other Republican from stopping her from claiming the Republican nomination. However, one of Palin’s harshest critics, Andrew Sullivan, warned Matthews that she could in fact go all the way. Sullivan listed some possible scenarios where Palin could realistically be elected and Matthews concluded only an “Armageddon moment” could make it possible.

Matthews thought she might have traction as the “angry candidate,” yet Sullivan was convinced Palin could be the “principled candidate,” in that she could argue she’s the only one effectively representing the grassroots conservative movement. Since Matthews occasionally admits that he wants more exciting candidates on the Republican side to enter the race, he jokingly asked Sullivan whether he was secretly trying to encourage Palin to pull the trigger and run. Yet Sullivan wasn’t laughing and responded:

“I’m too terrified for the country to do such a thing. But I don’t, I do think Washington has misread her, underestimated her, and doesn’t see the cunning there.”

Palin certainly has sent her critics into overdrive with the simple announcement of a bus tour. If and when the day arrives where she actually announces she will run for President, it seems likely she’ll need to be ready for an onslaught of criticism from every corner.

Yes, Andrew Sullivan is a completely non partisan commenter.

Really, he has NOTHING against Palin. Right?

There is ONE thing and ONE thing only that is a threat to our country in the immediate sense. That is the government. Government is NOT the solution, it is the problem. Ronald Maximus paraphrase. Heck, nowadays, Reagan would be arrested and charged with high crimes as a right wing extremist.

    Right Andrew?

Anyway, there is more important things to worry about right Andrew? We have to determine who’s child that is. I mean determining who or where Obama was born is second to none compared to where Trig was born right? I mean, if we are to apply the Constitution, where Palin’s kid was born is like twice as important to where Obama was born? Or am I completely forgetting where you got your importance.

You did become the most important Palin destroyer two years ago, prior to that you were unimportant. I mean, client number nine’s second was only instrumental in destorying Palin. That was her claim to fame correct?

What is YOUR relevance? What is it that we are supposed to care about? What is it that we are supposed to appreciate about YOUR opinion? That you are given MSM coveage? What EXACTLY is it that you have relevance about? I mean, did you see the economic debacle? Did you see the commodity exponential increase? No, Arch. I meant because he’s whining about being ‘terrified’ of Palin. How much experience did Obama have?

Ah, Andrew Sullivan….This man’s political commentary veers so close to self-parody, that you could almost put him on Saturday Night Live as a ready-made skit. I am surprised to see MSNBC put him on the air. Even liberals must cringe to see this out-of-touch ideologue as a spokesman for their principles.

The fact that we elected George W Bush is proof that America can elect a goofball.

Seriously, Sarah Palin is the poster child for Narcissistic personality disorder. Maybe she can do fundraising with NAMH in order to promote treatment for persons like herself. The cult of Sarah surrounding her just feeds into her derangement. Yeah, its allowed her to become famous (and I will give her this she is a b.s artist/ backstabber par excellence), but when Palinmania 2012 peaks and crashes (and it will)it won’t be pretty.

Can you explain this brain knowledge that Obama is employing? Is it in the high unemployment of African Americans? Is it artificial pricing of oil prices? Is it in involvement in a war that we can’t afford? Is it in sending $2 billion to a country where they might elect terrorist organizations? Is it in all of those cars that were built that no one is buying? Last I checked, Palin has been the leader while Obama has been the Partier-in-Chief.

Palin donated more to charity compared to Obama in relation to monies earned when she was a Governor. This was already proven. Multiple times. Try again. :)

Palin has also donated by proxy (all of the speeches that she’s given) so once again, try again.

You will epically fail each time.

  • WillP

I’m terrified of the country letting the media distort the true image of Sarah. Here is the real Sarah from the Washington Post on Friday. Palin wrote: “I’ve said many times that America doesn’t need a ‘fundamental transformation,’ instead we need a restoration of all that is good and strong and free in America! So, together let’s prepare ourselves for the days ahead by reminding ourselves who we are and what Americans stand for.”
Don’t be fooled by the talking heads in the media who hate Sarah or who are terrified of her like Andrew Sullivan. You have to wonder that if she weren’t worth their time why would they be paying her so much attention. Could it be that Sarah is better prepared and qualified to shake up the liberal, nanny state of Obama?
There is only leader in America who has the power to restore this great land of ours to its greatness. Only one leader can remind Americans who we are and what we stand for. And that leader is Sarah Palin. If you think America is not just ready for change, but to be restored to its true greatness than visit SarahPac. We need Sarah Palin because the soul of America needs Sarah Palin. Sarah Palin 2012!!!!!!!!!!

It will be a President Palin, Perry, Pawlenty, or any other one with an (R) by their name. Obama is a one-termer. An empty suit, manchild, who the media built his very own pedestal and who continue to this day elevate him to their cult leader. It’s very strange indeed and very awkward how the media so adore this empty suit.

    Sarah Palin????? W T F
Now that America has had a midlife crisis and decided to really lower the bar for being President, lets look at some other options for who could run for President of the US.

Dominique Strauss-Kahn (as long as he’s in a Hannibal Lector outfit or on Salt peter)…
General Zod (may have illegal alien issues)…
Charlie Sheen(possible DSK issues though will great for the polyamory movement with his First Goddesses
GW Bush (sad but true…even shrub has more of a brain than Palin. pretty sad)…
    evil Tiger mom Amy Chua…
H.R. Pufnstuf (not a person in any normal sense but person inside costume still would be a better president)…
    Paris Hilton..
    Lindsey Lohan…
Glenn Quagmire (cartoon character/may have some DSK issues see above. Would still be a better president)…
Snoop Dogg(at least he would legalize it)…
The greeter at my local Wal-Mart(he is much more polite than Palin /smarter) …
Drunk homeless man who I saw earlier today mumbling incoherently….

YES…EVEN ALL THESE INDIVIDUALS/CHARACTERS/MISFITS WOULD DO A BETTER JOB THAN PALIN!!!

  • Yoda002

I wouldn’t mind seeing it from a distance just to see the implosion. But I will make sure to be living in another country while that happens.

  • Nature Freak

Andrew Sullivan can sometimes be pompous but is overall a great writer and has done a lot of good for the GLBT community. I agree with him 100 percent here. It is less than 50 percent chance but it is conceivable Palin could win. That my friends is scary.

Let me add to the list of people eminently more qualified to run for president than Sarah Palin

The “Dont Taze Me Bro” Dude…
Dos Equis “The Most Interesting Man in the World”…
The late Jeff Conaway of Grease fame (America could do a Weekend at Bernies thing. Sure beats Palin)…
Sarah Silverman (maybe my first choice as the debate between the Sarahs would be epic)
Flo from the Progressive Insurance ads. Yes even she is less annoying than Palin. And she’s progressive.

America….your 234 years old …I know your having a midlife crisis. This Palin dalliance needs to stop. Please see a therapist before having a serious relationship with Palin. Think of the children

Sully overrates the Palin “threat”. I think/hope. I’m still fairly confident we aren’t THAT stupid.

If Palin ever got in, she’d destroy the country in no time. The woman is nothing more than a self centered “look at me” huckster. Palin is clueless, she’d never be able to handle the job. She couldn’t handle/stand her job as governor so she quit. Is that the kind of person people really want as president?

I don’t think even the FOX NEWS PARTY (GOOP) could get Sarah Palin elected President of th US. To even suggest such a person as qualified for the position is destructive and exhibits careless disregard for the people of the US and its armed services. This woman is not a “public servant”. She lacks the depth of humanity, necessary to govern for all the people. READ ROLLING STONES THIS WEEK. There is an article about Roge Ailes in it that will make your stomach crawl.

Andrew Sullivan claims to be a conservative, but the Wikipedia entry says:

In January 2009, Tunku Varadarajan, Elisabeth Eaves and Hana R. Alberts, writing in Forbes magazine, ranked Sullivan #19 on a list of “The 25 Most Influential Liberals In The U.S. Media”, writing that “he clings unconvincingly to the ‘conservative’ label even after his fervent endorsement of Obama. His advocacy for gay marriage rights and his tendency to view virtually everything through a ‘gay’ prism puts him at odds with many on the right.”

I can’t think of why anyone, conservative or liberal, would be terrified of Sarah Palin, as she governed in Alaska very pragmatically, not at all ideologically.

I believe Sarah Palin could win the presidential elections in 2012 because of one reason only; a large number of voters are very naive in regard to comprehension of our English language. Palin is never specific in her speech because she doesn’t know enough about Government, History or Economics to be specific. This doesn’t mean anything to many naïve voters, if you wave a flag, say God Bless America, hail to our soldiers over there or down with Big Government or anything that sounds patriotic which is all some voters need to sign on the dotted line. Who can we blame this on? It is pure and simple, under educated voters on both sides. However, if a politician speaks with a perverse tongue, that would confuse any voters. If Palin had more years under her belt where she could have absorbed more knowledge of Government and its inner workings her chances would not only be good, they would be excellent.

    AAAAAMENN!

At least Palin has been a governor prior to which she was member of her City Council from 1992 to 1996, moved up to Mayor in 1996, won re-election in 1999, and 2002, appointed by the Governor and served on the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission until she resigned in 2003 after filing a complaint against a fellow Republican for an “ethics” violation (he got fined $12,000), joined with a Democrat, Eric Croft, to force the Attorney General to resign due to ethics (he did). She then from 2003 to June 2005, served as one of three directors of “Ted Stevens Excellence in Public Service, Inc.,” a 527 group designed to provide political training for Republican women in Alaska..

In 2006 ran and won the governership, and in 2007 received 93% and 89% popularity among all voters, named by some media outlets as the “Most Popular Governor. She ran a very successful governership until July 3, 2009, Palin announced that she would not run for re-election in the 2010 Alaska gubernatorial election and would resign before the end of July. In her announcement, Palin stated that both she and the state had been expending an “insane” amount of time and money ($2.5 million) to address “frivolous” ethics complaints filed against her, (THANK YOU, LIBERAL FOR HOUNDING HER OUT OF OFFICE WITH LEGAL FEES THAT SHE AND THE STATE COULD NOT AFFORD). And, now you can complain that she’s a “quitter” after running her out of office.

……. while this phony voted “present” for practically his whole political career, missed 24% of roll call votes , and as a senator helped ACORN drag the banks down by threatening to sue IF they didn’t give loans to the unqualified!

How in hades does that qualify him for anything to do with leading our nation?

The honest truth in all this baloney from the left about who is or who is not qualified to be president comes down to one simple truth. You THOUGHT OBAMA was and he has never come close. He took over and some how thought he became some Prince of some Muslim Country. Prob Palestinian, and has ever since attempted to give America away. You got to give him credit, he almost did it. NO, if Palin wants to run, one thing is certain, SHE will NEVER be as unQualified as Obama still is. Would she be a good President? I dont have a clue but I do know one thing, She would be SO MUCH Better for America than Obama has been so whats the problem.

Oopsy! You will notice that Obama was essentially absent from his office as Senator for the last 24 months………… all of 2007 and all of 2008……from January 2007 to December 2008.

Guess he’s a quitter, too. Oops! That’s half of his term, too. But, I guess that doesn’t matter, does it? He didn’t quit because he was forced out of office…….notice that he was still getting paid while he CAMPAIGNED for President on the taxpayer’s dole.

Surely, Sullivan’s not saying Palin is a “cunning linguist?”

Two votes down? Guess some libs don’t like their guy’s voting record/time in office compared to Palin’s. They prefer the kool-aide they’ve been drinking to facts. Sad. Prefer bias and prejudices to facts.

And, they gripe about Fox News being biased? LOL!

Sarah Mascara isn’t worthy of licking the President’s boots.
