Bill Maher Ridicules GOP’s ‘Realistic’ List Of 2012 Presidential Candidates

video

Bill Maher took it upon himself on Real Time tonight to analyze George Will’s prospective field of realistic Republican presidential candidates for 2012. In a development that will shock precisely no one, Maher didn’t seem overly taken with the field – although in a somewhat more surprising turn, neither did one of his conservative panelists.

Maher, in fact, didn’t even know who everyone on the list was (Jon Huntsman, outgoing U.S. ambassador to China, tripped him up). He knew “department store mannequin” Mitt Romney a bit better, and was unable to muster much enthusiasm (or, to begin with, the right name) for Tim Pawlenty: “You want to hear an interesting story about Tim Pawlenty? So would he.”

And while former Republican congressman Tom Davis, appearing tonight on Maher’s panel, had kind words for other Will choices Haley Barbour and Mitch Daniels, fellow conservative guest Dana Loesch seemed underwhelmed by the lot, wondering “why immediately the women are discounted in the Republican Party.” She wondered why a candidate “who [doesn't] follow the whole Republican GOP formula” wouldn’t receive stronger consideration – Loesch said she didn’t mean for that to be construed as a Sarah Palin endorsement, but expressed admiration for Michele Bachmann, with whom Maher had nearly as much of a field day as he would have had Loesch praised Palin.

While Palin might not have won Will’s or Loesch’s endorsement, both Maher and guest Paul Begala fervently hoped she remained in the spotlight – if only because anything with palin involved is rarely boring. Video of the segment below, via HBO.

What happened to that big Michael Moore boycott? I thought all the school children were going to walk out yesterday? Windbag.

Tsunami coverage must have killed the coverage of the BIG union rally in Madison? I bet they would have covered the Packers even with a tsunami.

The libs have really come unhinged in the last few weeks. They think that telling bigger and bigger lies is going to work.

I’m sure Michael Moore hopped on a plane to help out with his money and time to help the victims of the quake and tsunami.

Yes . Republicans need a strong list of candidates like Dems had last time :
    Chris ( Countrywide ) Dodd
John ( My daddy worked in a mill , till I sued the mill and put’em out of business ) Edwards
Bill ( the backstabber ) Richardson
Hillary ( Hey , those are all old allegations ) Clinton
Barack ( Small time union organizer , bigtime phony and incompetent ) Obama
Dennis ( Olive pit ) Kucinich
Joe ( Longtime government employee , on the wrong side of every issue ) Biden

What Maher thinks about anything is one level of cred up from Charlie Sheen’s list of beliefs. Maher sux big-time all the time and Mitt Romney is way better than the Indonesian Thumbsucker now showing his imbecility in the Oval Office.

You’re one of THOSE liberals who need a good boogeyman puppetmaster to follow politics? Good vs Bad, no nuance. You’re a market researchers wet dream. You’ve bought the most narrow and simple view of the world hook, line, and sinker.

  • CosmosDan

I had to laugh when that lady mentioned Bachman. I’d be totally up for an intelligent conservative woman to be considered, but not Palin or Bachman. Keep looking.

Bill should stick to comedy and stop pretending to be a political scholar. It’s actually funny to watch his guest (R) Tom Davis make him look like a complete idiot on who these people are he brings up on the list of 5.

I have seen Maher’s stand up special’s on HBO and they are not comedy. I would say it is more of a rally where Maher preaches to a crowed to like minded drones. Why do I think this? Because in order for it to be a comedy show there must be laughter and all I hear is applause and hardly laughter. Maher is many thing’s but comedian is not one of theme.

Was that Paul Begala? I agree with him — I’d pass the hat for Bachmann’s filing fee any day of the week. Not Palin though, she’s extracted enough money from Fux and Friends that she really doesn’t need any help.

Too bad there’s no god, or I could join every Democrat in America praying “Please Michelle, run, baby, run.”

Who the Republican nominee will be for 2012 matters little unless President Obama has a platform to stand on. Don’t get me wrong, I am rooting for Obama to bring down unemployment and hold gas prices in check. Maybe he will mitigate the pain of poverty and the housing foreclosures. It is possible that the wars and the turmoil in the middle east countries will be solved. I hope Obama succeeds in dropping the debt and the deficit. There is a whole lot more that is unacceptable to the voters and I don’t want to overstay my welcome on this sore subject. Obama started campaigning not fixing weeks agoThe country does not like the direction we are going and that is a critical question in polls. So Bill Maher can chastise Mitt Romney but the other day he beat Christie in a Jersey poll. He may have some light explaining to do but he is clean and looks good up there. Not only can Romney win but if our lifestyles in America do not improve in a short amount of time which is from now until Election 2012, we will be tossing his name, Senator DeMint and maybe two other Republicans around exclusively while Obama will only be able to promise and speculate with very little results to stand on.

One certainly wants Obama to have done more, but I don’t think Romney (the most viable candidate in the Republican stable) can beat him unless things get a lot worse — and they’re currently on an uptick. Almost more important will be holding the Senate and recapturing the House — and turning around a few state legislatures.

I’m cautiously optimistic there as well, because buyer’s remorse from overreaching Republican radicals — in concert with a recrudescnence of the moral grundyites of the religious right — are likely to turn the electorate’s stomach.

This election could be a landslide. If Mitt Romney wins the nomination which looks possible the Republicans are in deep chit.

When the GOP finds a woman whose qualified then we can talk, Palin and Bachmann do not count

Hillary Clinton, regardless if you love or hate her ideology, is a woman whose qualified

Bachmann thnks the founding fathers worked to end slavery, anyone whose ready a history book knows otherwise, she told NH residents that Lexington and Concord was in their state, saying that an amendment defining marriage belongs in the constitution when all legal experts say it should not (and as someone who went to law school she really should know better)

Bottom line is if Dana Loesch wants the GOP to find a woman to run for president they need to find one whose qualified, doesn’t make a fool out of themselves when they talk, and who can intelligently defend themselves in the face of opposition,

The Run of the Mill GOP Knowns can not beat Obama. A dark horse & running mate will be
necessary aka a totally unknown; like Obama but this time one with Presidential Credentials.
My pick would be: Allen West / Florida Rep. Check him out….

Women that I could vote for would be: Susana Martinez or Nikki Haley.
As it is said: “One needs to nominate someone who can win the election.
Though they are fairly new (BTW this is a plus) they have more experience than Obama.

Bill Maher hit the nail right on the head. But then…the average registered republican voter lives with blinders on their eyes regarding the fact that the republican party is not a party “of”, “for” or “by” the people. That type of bullshit tactic is always used to dupe GOP voters prior to election time. The average republican voter does not realize who the real constituents of the republican party politicians are wealthy special interests such as large corporations and rich people who have banded together to have their own lobbyists in congress to peddle influence for them. The republican party is not a party of “we the people” and for as much as these stupid idiots who vote republican want to believe their party is somehow moral, Christian & against socialism, the GOP is none of those things. The GOP is heavily into socialism. Their brand of socialism is towards large corporations in the form of corporate welfare which is why all republican politicians are “OWNED” lock, stock & barrel by wealthy corporate special interests. Those are the true constituents of republican politicians, not “we the people”.

We have been told to fear Communism back in the 1950. Communism was a commune of poor people mooching off of the rich people. Now we are being faced with the fear of another form of Communism which appears to be Capitalist whom has formed a commune of rich people and calling it a cartel to eliminate competition, while feeding off the labors of the poor. It seems to be a complete reversal of the Communism our political and business leaders warned us to fear so many years ago. When the naïve middle class along with the poor get this malarkey from our rich brothers and sisters figured out; woe is to the man that has been speaking with a perverse mouth. When some good attorneys go through some past financial debacles, Bernie Madoff may be getting some company. Alleluia

Sadly Maher, Baher, Whoopie, et all and the Hellywood company are very effective along
with the Lame Stream Media to utilize their undermining ridicule to destroy whom ever.
21st Comedy is not the Gleason/Skelton comedy any more but rather quite vicious.

There are NO declared GOP candidate. It’s far too early to declare. Obimbo has to campaign this early because he knows he’s in serious trouble. Democrats are openly attacking him. A sure sign they think his days are numbered.
I like Mahar’s comment about what Mrs.Backman said on slavery. I wonder if the remembers what Obimbo said about there being 57 states? Obimbo isn’t crazy? Take a look at his record and then tell us he isn’t crazy!
I’m curious as to why Mahar doesn’t invite Beck and O’Reilly on his show at the same time?
