CNN Reports Trump Intends to Sign Border Deal to Avoid Shutdown
President Donald Trump is planning to sign the bipartisan spending package Congress has agreed upon regarding border security.
CNN has a new report that Trump intends to sign a new bipartisan deal that would allocate $1.375 billion for a border barrier — short of the more than $5 billion he demanded — according to two sources. While this move will let the country avoid another partial government shutdown, Trump himself said on Tuesday he was “not happy” with it, given the little funding it allocates for his wall.”
CNN’s Dana Bash broke down the report on New Day, saying Trump is complaining about Congress not doing its job, but he’ll sign the proposal begrudgingly if it’ll prevent a second shutdown. She also reported that Trump is still considering an executive order or similar measure to get the funding he wants in his own way.
“The president is seriously considering — maybe more than seriously considering — executive action of some sort using pots of money he knows exist in the Department of Homeland Security, the Pentagon, maybe even go as far as a national emergency which does cause other issues politically with his own base in Congress. But the point is he wants to keep the political fight going, and that’s not going to change.”
