CBS’ Dickerson Presses Sanders for Saying Climate Change Is Connected to Terrorism
Fresh off last night’s Democratic presidential debate, Bernie Sanders reappeared with CBS’ John Dickerson this morning on Face the Nation, where Dickerson asked Sanders about something he asserted early on in the debate.
Last night, Sanders stood by his belief that climate change is the greatest national security threat, saying that it’s “directly related to the growth of terrorism” because of how it leads to fighting over limited resources like water.
Sanders insisted to Dickerson today that this is the same assessment the CIA and Defense Department share about fighting over natural resources and how people will be fighting over land if there’s a drought.
Dickerson asked how drought connects to the ISIS attacks in Paris.
Sanders said that drought leads to migration into cities, and when people don’t have jobs, there’s instability and unemployment and a susceptibility to ISIS propaganda.
