DNC Chair Wasserman Schultz ‘Thrilled’ the GOP Debate Will Be a ‘Food Fight’

DNC Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz described Wednesday night’s second GOP debate as a “food fight” while defending her party’s decision to limit the number of debates on Andrea Mitchell Reports.

Host Andrea Mitchell wasted no time in asking Wasserman Schultz why, despite criticism from DNC vice-chairs and many of the Democratic party’s presidential candidates, she was sticking to her decision to hold no more that six debates between now and the convention.

Wasserman Schultz responded, saying that the party’s focus is to make sure “that retail politics can really be robust. Every time a candidate has to engage and get ready for a debate, they have to come off the trail. That means that they are going to not get as much of an opportunity from the voters to be seen up close and personal.”

Despite this, Mitcell argued that the Republican party’s two debates are “drowning” out the Democrats. What does the chair have to say about that, then?

“Good. Because you know what?” she asked rhetorically. “I am actually thrilled at the voters across America being able to see the 16 Republican candidates in the food fight that they will engage in tonight.”

The hope is that the GOP’s massive, repetitive debates will eventually tire out the voters watching them — especially those who remain undecided. Even so, many of the criticisms lauded at Wasserman Schultz and the DNC, especially the claims that Hillary Clinton is considered a shoe-in, are still sticking.

Tonight’s “food fight” makes one wonder: Will Donald Trump eat enchiladas beforehand?
