FBI: Both San Bernardino Suspects Were Radicalized ‘For Quite Some Time’
The FBI provided an update on the San Bernardino shooting and the two suspects, Syed Farook and Tashfeen Malik, during a press conference this afternoon.
Authorities have found 19 pipes that could have been potentially been used for pipe bombs, according to FBI Assistant Director in Charge David Bowdich, and he provided more information on what they know about the suspects.
In response to reports that Farook had been radicalized, Bowdich said, “We have learned and believe that both subjects were radicalized and have been for quite some time.” He said they’re looking into how that happened and who radicalized them in the first place.
The FBI is working with law enforcement partners to look into who Farook and Malik had foreign contact with. Bowdich also revealed both suspects did some target practice, one session “within days of this event.”
The FBI also found evidence of “pre-planning” on the part of the two shooting suspects.
