Geraldo Blasts Herman Cain’s Spokesman For Not Denying Sexual Harassment Claims

video

Fox News’s Geraldo Rivera grilled Herman Cain spokesman JD Gordon Sunday night about the new salacious sexual harassment allegations being made against his candidate, repeatedly asking him for a yes-or-no response to the charges. “What you’re doing now is a recipe for disaster, mate,” Geraldo warned. “I’m telling you the morning papers are not past their deadline yet. Are you denying there was a cash settlement to two female employees of the National Restaurant Association — yes or no?” “You would have to get that from the National Restaurant Association,” Gordon responded. “These are serious allegations,” Geraldo said. “You gotta give us a little more substance.”

All Cain’s spokesman would say is that the charges were thinly sourced, as Geraldo continued chipping away at Gordon, trying to to receive an explicit response.

“These two sources aren’t even named in the piece and it was a third party,” Gordon explained.

“Are you denying it ever happened, JD Gordon?” Geraldo asked again.

“These are thin allegations, this is non-sourced, right now we’re trying to put this in perspective for you that this is not even an — uh — sourced allegation,” Gordon stammered, saying his candidate deserved better.

“He may deserve much better than this, JD Gordon, chief spokesman of the Herman Cain, but I want your denial–if you would– to be more substantive, do you deny that this ever happened?” Geraldo questioned.

“Let me just tell you this is an example of the media attacks,” Gordon hit back.

“Yes or no, was there a cash settlement to two female employees of the National Restaurant Association?” Geraldo persisted.

But Gordon would only continue to give non-answers to the allegations. “All I am telling you right now is it’s something the establishment is trying to attack…”

“You are evading my questions — was there or was there not a cash settlement?” Geraldo interrupted.

“This is a typical attack on a conservative who is doing well in the polls,” Gordon continued, before Geraldo cautioned he was dooming his candidate with his non-answers.

“Are you not in contact with your boss — may we speak with Mr. Cain?” Geraldo grilled.

“The international media already passed on it because they knew there was nothing to it,” Gordon claimed.

I seriously doubt Cain is done. Remember that the same thing happened to Arnold Schwarzenegger during his first run as governor and there were a lot of woman who spoke openly spoke about him harassing them. Same happened to Bill Clinton too. If Cain survives this and there is a good chance he will then this won’t be a 2012 election issue.

  • Anonymous

I love how commenters on the first Mediaite story posted on this Cain controversy say this is “Libruls at werk.” Well, the story may have originated at Politico (a centrist site, though of course FOX screams that it’s a lefty-commie-pinko blog), but don’t they realize this story is gleefully being reported upon by FOX news? The republican in-fighting is getting brutal boys and girls! Honestly, it’s too bad. I would love to see a Cain/Bachmann ticket; after that a Perry/Cain (or Cain/Perry for that matter) ticket would be fun. I may just have to settle for a Romney/Cain ticket. Scream and cry all you want republicans, but it won’t change the fact that the republican field is as strong as cooked spaghetti.

I understand everything the spokesman said can be true in many cases. But he skirted answering that one question so much he must be dizzy. As a Cain fan myself, this does NOT look good. One simple denial would have worked but the spokesman obviously did everything he could to avoid it.

Totally. I sympathize with Cain…but this guy playing victimhood and doing the evasive gymnastics dance to Geraldo’s simple questions were just bad optics. Didn’t he see what happened to Weiner? I comment on Cain and Bachmann (and Palin, and Perry, et al) not because I’m afraid of them. It’s because my intelligence is continually insulted by them and because I struggle to understand how any rational individual with the capacity to discern the difference between sh!t and shinola would ever consider any of these people to be capable of leading the US.

I’ll also point out how quickly the republican field is dwindling from weak ideas (e.g. “999″) and rampant flip-flopping. The spotlight of reason burns harshly on the ridiculousness put forth by these republican candidates…. much like a magnifying glass burns a dry leaf in the summer sun.

This sexual harassment issue simply hastens Cain’s demise. It’s not the cause of it. His utter lack of understanding in all the areas required to be president (e.g. macro-economics, foreign policy, diplomacy, etc.) is painfully apparent. His political boat has been springing leaks since he started to get more media attention. His 999 plan is the bottom of his boat and it’s tissue-paper thin. Everything else he purports to know are the sides of the boat and that’s made of construction paper.

The only reason he’s lasted this long is due to the media’s desire to play with him, like a cat with a toy, in order to have more to babble about for minutes upon minutes and column inches upon column inches.

Gee, it kinda makes sense that the sources for this POLITICO bombshell were fed to POLITICO by the campaign of the candidate most likely in need of a boost from Cain taking a nose-dive, but on the other hand the establishment GOP choice – by party tradition, by Rove preference, by clear Fox News bias – is NOT Perry, and yet the most likely person or group to have arranged for this story to fall into the lap of POLITICO is the establishment GOP, through their long incestuous relationship with huge establishment lobby organization where this all took place (whatever “this all” may have amounted to).

So, it’s actually MORE consistent with the GOP establishment saying, Whoa, the way this contest is going is making our entire party look absolutely nuts, so we better do something to force a little emetic into the belly of this beast.

Anyway – by the very nature of both the complaints and the terms of their respective settlements, it will prove impossible for Cain to remove this stain from his pearly white teeth. And this hit has the smell of napalm in the morning to it, because it also ruins Cains’ real plans as Fox News political celebrity host almost as a matter of that’s-just-the-way-it’s-gotta-be collateral damage.

Anyway, Not Romney got a big haircut this weekend. Buh-bye, Herb.

  • Alfie_7_2005

Well, Geraldo has found a new “vault” to delve into, and I am guessing there won’t be any more in it than there was in All Capone’s a few years back.  I think Fox keeps this guy around for comic relief.

  • Anonymous

As I always say, if you think it is a choice, you must have considered it.

  • Norbit

Didn’t Bea Arthur or someone recently claim to have had sex with Geraldo, and it was horrible?
Who was it that came out with that revelation?

…and I know it probably wasn’t Bea Arthur, because she’s dead.

  • Anonymous

Settled out of court is a bit different. Often, a settlement is the cheap and easy way out without admitting guilt or proving innocence. It is also possible to include “no further discussion” promises in a settlement. We may never know how much, if anything, was paid and even if something was paid it proves nothing.

So, I plan to just relax and enjoy a juicy sex scandal without getting into the legalities of it.

  • Rex the Wonder God

Go back a step: this story, smear or not, meaningful otherwise or not, arises from a period when Cain was a lobbyist, more accurately capo de capi lobbyist for the National Restaurant Association – which period covered no less than 3 years of Cain’s life and career in “business”, during which, again, he was President of the NRA.

Now consider this: Cain has spent much of the last few months of this campaign on a book tour, promoting his “autobiography”.

I put that term in quotes for a reason: Cain did not write that book. Rather, it was written entirely by an elderly married couple in NY City, who have spent decades writing the sort of book that might be describe as fluffed-up political history. They are Jerry & Deborah Strober, and they are fluffers.

In “his” book, Cain does not tell us that the Strobers wrote “his” book; he does thank them for their ‘assistance’, but does not describe how they earned that thanks, which is by having been paid a fee to write a book purporting to the be the autobiography of Herman Cain, to the specifications of said Herman Cain. That is, Herman Cain has deliberately misled the public by claiming this to be “his” book, that is, written by him.

“His” book contains descriptions of various stops in his ‘business” career, primarily with large “food production” corporations, including Coca-Cola, Pillsbury (the Dough Boy corporation), Burger King and Godfather’s Pizza. He did not found any of these, nor was he the key decision maker in any of them; at all times, he was a corporate spokesman. That last bit, of course, is not “his” book portrays him.

Here’s the second kicker: “his” book also fails to mention his work as a lobbyist for the NRA, and in that connection fails to mention that his prime contribution, if indeed it was his own, during his time with the NRA was to increase the number of lobbyists on the NRA payroll.

That explains Cain resorting to the Strobers to write “his” “autobiography”: a fluffer resorting to fluffers.

Most if not all here will recognize the reference to the term “fluffer”. It derives from the porn industry. What Cain did for Coca-Cola, for Pillsbury, for Burger King and for Godfather’s Pizza was to act as a fluffer for the products of those “food” production corporations, to excite interest in them among one or more – I think one, because I can not think of another – actual or potential customer demographics.

It does not appear that Cain was particularly effective at any one of his jobs as a fluffer, except that each job as a fluffer led to another job in the same industry also as a fluffer.

It would be to wrong to attempt to use a racial stereotype to describe Cain as a pimp, but in part, and perhaps mostly, because the role of a pimp is so different from the role of a fluffer. Fluffers, for example, are typically dependent on their salaries, not shares of gross receipts. Also, it would not be fair to characterize pimps as stereotypically having a particular skin tone (though at the same time, I am not aware of whether any particular skin tone is stereotypically that of fluffers, either).

But it is definitely not wrong to suggest that he followed the same model he employed in business, that of a fluffer, in having “his” “autobiography” written for him: he hired professional fluffers, whom he paid a salary for fluffing his supposed life story – one that actively seeks to persuade its readers that is something other than as a fluffer, going to far as to exclude the most period in his career when he was most obviously a fluffer, as a lobbyist for the NRA, which some, including me, would tend to blur the lines between the proper understanding of what is constitutes a “restaurant” and what is in fact a fast-food-like-substance distribution corporation.

I will not argue that what Cain turns out really to have been is worse than a pimp and pusher for corporations whose business models are centered on getting uninformed Americans to ingest toxic amounts of sugar and edible comestibles that have no actual food value and do nothing but cause or aggravate weight problems, diabetes, hypertension and bad cholesterol, because it’s possible that Cain has restricted his involvement in those endeavors to fluffing, which as we all realize is materially different from actually making or serving that crap or actually deciding on the business model, processes and ingredients that make it up. That is, fluffers are quite different from pimps and pushers, because, among other things, pimps and pushers tend to be independent entrepreneurs, whereas fluffers tend to be salaried employees (or, in fairnss, flat-fee for service sub-contractors). So, there are differences, and they are important to bear in mind when judging Cain.

Frankly, there are much bigger reasons to reject Cain, starting with his nonsensical 999 plan and his murky views on abortion and his pride in being dumb about foreign affairs. My concern is that if his fans aren’t willing to reject him for any of these things, this won’t penetrate their craniums either.

cain   has started at the bottom, worked his way to the top in many industries, burger king, godfathers, pillsberry , gained degrees in mathematics, and used these to produce many jobs, i have employed many and i can say that there are ALWAYS disgruntled employees . there are always people who have mad because you require them to work, you cant say ANYTHING without someone being OFFENDED,and some are looking for a reason to sue!!!. always hoping someday they can hurt you. that is one reason i have had as few employees as possible. because i knew that the laws are in the employees favor, this is yet one more reason our businesses are not hiring, or relocating.
but ,here we have this man who has defied all odds, done the impossible, succeeded 3 or 4 times in business, taken failing companies and turned them around !! is this not what we need for our country????????i would like a direct answer you libs out there !!!, and then to be so successful ,that he began working for the federal reserve, that is phenomenal !! and all this and he is black, and obama has produced NOTHING not one job, or anything anyone ever could use, oh wait i believe he spooned up a few scoops of icecream when he was a kid at baskin and robbins that is something, but besides that he has done nothing but take the money that others have worked for, and spent it on buying votes, this is what frosts the left about cain. they are SOOO
FFF_ING JEALOUS we are totally lucky cain is willing to offer his services to our pitiful and undeserving nation, thats right WE DONT DESERVE THIS GUY
and look at how we as a country are treating him,    lynching him with no evidence!!    nice media boys , maybe that is why david rockefeller said you media slimebags were covering for him!!
