GMA Investigates End Of Glenn Beck’s Show On Fox News: ‘A Marriage That Went Sour’

video

On ABC’s Good Morning America, correspondent John Berman investigated the looming end of the Fox News-Glenn Beck relationship, describing it as a “marriage that went sour.” In Berman’s words, it was a case of “falling ratings, fleeing advertisers, and like many divorces, it had one partner that kept on saying things that, well, went pretty far.”

That partner, of course, was Beck, who Berman notes “barked, cried, and ranted” on his show for two years, including his “trademark chalk board filled with conspiracy theories,” all of which Howard Kurtz says may have gone too far for Fox.

It was all terrific fodder for comics like Jon Stewart, of course, but Berman says “you get the sense that Fox wasn’t laughing anymore.”

Puhleez, Beck was a ratings draw. Beck is too big for FOX News so look out libs, this isn’t the end of Beck.

  • BeckFinallyDemoted

Beck will still write books and rant on the internet and radio with all the other crazies but he will never be taken seriously enough to land on a news channel again.

Even if he scores a syndicated show it will be taken no more seriously than Jerry Springer or Judge Judy.

And that’s as it should be.

BTW, I seriously think my countdown had something to do with Beck’s demise.
    Stand the pressure, he couldn’t.

I for one am enjoying watching how difficult it’ll be to stake out a position between Fox and Beck for some of you guys.

I am no Fox fan, but I get this whole deal. Sure he may have given them 2 million fans at 5 PM, but at what cost? They were paying a price for Beck. So they send him on his way.

You put a ribbon on it to take it look good on the way out, but that is what happened. Beck was made by Ailes. He thought he was bigger than Ailes. Ailes sent him away.

This is not the first time this type of story has happened. Won’t be the last,

Follow me to my chalk board whilst I draw this out for you.

OlberDork for Beck…fair trade. But Beck will always have a more high-profile platform than OlberDork.

  • Pablo

That totally explains Beck’s new contract with Fox.

The contract is nothing more than a way for Beck to save face.
The specials will be few and far between and will be highly vetted for “craziness” until they eventually disappear altogether.

Let’s call it a severance package. lol

Two left wing bomb throwers sitting at a table speculating as to what Beck’s reason for leaving happens to be is what passes for investgative journalism over at ABC today. Or maybe it’s just that the left wing bomb throwers here at MEDIAite were just a tad over zealous in the way they’ve sesationalized this story.

Did he draw some people? A few. To be sure. Did he repel some people? Certainly. Many. Did he draw advertisers? A few. Did he repel advertisers? Yes. Many more. FOX “News” lost money every time Beck came on the air. Those loses were clearly going to grow.

The problem TT is you believe noise and clatter are an indicia of ratings and revenues. That’s not necessarily so, and it was demonstrably not so with Beck.

Additionally, while some FOX “News” fans may crave the attention scorn, contempt and ridicule bring, Ailes and Murdoch did not. They instead craved journalistic respectability. John Gibson couldn’t provide that, and he’s gone. Glenn Beck couldn’t provide that, and he’s gone. But, not only could Beck not provide journalistic respectability, he made his colleagues and FOX “News” less respectable as a news media organization. To a much lesser extent, the Friends do the same thing. Shep’s job, Megyn’s job are much more difficulty because of Beck.

This is not the Golden Age of the Circus. It is not the Golden Age of Beck.

Dana Milbank has a wonderful article in the Washington Post today about the inevitability of Beck’s demise. Americans are at times an angry and bitter people. But, for a short duration. We tire of it in short fashion. All Beck ever offered was anger and bitterness, doom and gloom. For a few, for the proudly angry and bitter, Beck was still immensely popular. Most have moved on. Most have moved away from Beck.

You’ve been reading Media Matters again, huh King? Beck has the 3rd largest viewership on cable news, AND a new contract with FOX. That’s not consistent with your unsupportable claims of “repelling advertisers” and “repelling” many people………………..unless of course, you’re referring to repelling un-American Liberals and advertising by the DNC.

You mean ratings that involves senior citizens, who are not part of the Demos that the advertisers really pay for? if so, yes that is accurate. But Murdoch is a business man, and in the end that is what matters. Not crazy talk.

Glenn Beck=Rick Sanchez Tee Hee. He still hasn’t answered the question What exactly is white culture? One of the most epic falls from grace in media history.

Anyone spending their time in gymnastic contortions defending Beck care to explain to me why Fox is letting him go away to this so-called better deal if he such and important part of their strategy?

You guys are just so silly if you think this is a step up for Fox. I am defending Fox here. I get their deal. They are a network that wants to make money. They are a business. Beck was bad for business.

BUT THAT DOESN”T MEAN THAT CONSERVATIVE THOUGHT IS WRONG!!!

You guys need to defend people more than ideas. I keep hearing about how the right is the idea party. But then I see a thrice married guy who has taken multiple businesses to bankruptcy is supposed to carry the torch for the family values and fiscal responsibilty crowd.

He has had several able body fill in hosts that have presented Beck’s material, without the slightest of blips in the crushing ( of the MSM ) ratings.

Rupert Murdoch, Roger Ailes and Glenn Beck are at the pinnacle of their respective careers, and anyone who actually believes a bunch of pussies like Media Matters and a communist like Soros have had or will have any imput, or affect on these three titans plans for the future are ______, fill in the blank, because I can’t do it I’m laughing too hard.

And for the record those “pussies” at Media Matters just got your boy’s scalp, some pussies eh?

Do you really believe Beck, after spending two years of connecting the dots, always with Obama’s head looming, just out of the fray wasn’t setting the wheels in motion to topple the Obama regime ? Really?

Yes. I do. Because it was all an act. A silly, silly act by a silly, silly man.

And you silly people ate it up.

Fox got rid of Beck because it may be a plotical operation, but it is still a business. It wants you to get angry. It wants you to vote against the guy, sure.

But Fox and all of its leaders exist in reality. They may not like the Democrats, but they realize that they are actual people in the game. They realize there isn’t some evil plan to destroy America. There are two parties on either side of a line arguing about the best way to run the place. They have their side and that’s fine.

But they also realized having a grifter waving his arms all day selling his grift to sad, scared people was bad for business. And they moved on.

    The end.

Do you have hard numbers to support that assertion, or just the feeling you’re pulling out of your ass?

The specials will be few and far between and will be highly vetted for “craziness” until they eventually disappear altogether.

Let’s call it a severance package. lol

Have you seen it? What is the source of this knowledge of yours? It’s your ass, isn’t it?

Color Me Badd has a point. If someone is saying things you disagree with, silence them. Screw that first amendment.

  • catfishjuggling

@Pablo: Of course I have no numbers. I am nowhere near important enough to know those numbers. Neither are you. I am just a guy commenting on a website.

So, to your question, I am just pulling this out of my ass, just like everyone else here.

    Next.

What is coming for Obama, you might want to expound on that thought or get visited by the Secret Service.

If you had bothered to read the next sentence rather than calling the FBI hotline, you could have answered your own question, you doorknocker.

Oh great now that van with the blacked out windows is parked out front again thanks to you.

Keep telling yourself that…over and over again. I guess now those 86 special ( Ed ) ops guys / gals get laid off.

i suspect he’ll go the Gene Scott route. after all, he stole the blackboard idea from him. he’s got the hair and the build; all he needs is a beard, the pipe, and the same time slot.

Beck was his own worst enemy. His message was right, the delivery was wrong. Had he kept it to investigative reporting, and dropped the preaching his message would have been easier to except. People watch Fox to get hard reporting. Like most people, if we want to hear preaching we’ll go to church. Hopefully, Beck will continue to put a light on the backroom-rats, and expose them for what they are.

I like Beck. Third highest cable news show. Third highest radio show. Talks about faith without reservation. Seems like anything else is just a bunch of jealous people…

IWe do not need beck to prove it is wrong. All you need is a clear understanding of history, politics and economics, subjects that few conservatives have had the intellectual discipline to learn,

I wonder what you’ll say when Beck starts a new channel devoted to deposing and exposing the most corrupt administration in our countries History, run by a man ( Obama ) who may have circumvented our constitution and laws to become the first foreign born subject to become president of the United States of America.

Do you really believe Beck, after spending two years of connecting the dots, always with Obama’s head looming, just out of the fray wasn’t setting the wheels in motion to topple the Obama regime ? Really?

Last night Glenn stated for all the world to hear that he sounded the alarm, you laughed. He went on to state HE was now prepared to fight the battle.

Every left wing bomb thrower is having the time of your lives over Beck’s departure from the 5:00 PM time slot at ” FOX NEWS “, every one of you but Barack Hussein Obama, because he knows what’s coming.

And where is your evidence for this corruption? Making up and printing lies does not make them true. But for those live live in Beck’s world of delusion and fantasy life is one long acid trip. Whatever you believe you see you see, ha ha.

  • got a grip

All I can say is if ratings were a factor in Beck’s leaving his show, whats up with Crazy Larry, Tingles, and Sgt. Schultz? They weren’t a collective blip on Beck’s ratings radar screen then or now. Its further evidence that either they are not long for the broadcast schedule, or the state-run media over there needs them to advance their agenda.

So you’re say’in there’ll be no more competition with Oprah’s popularity any more?

  • sootsme

Beck’s laid it on the table for those with eyes to see and ears to hear. Personally, I think things have progressed to the point that a meltdown is our only real hope. Start over in our own neighborhoods, and keep it real. That means everything except the military, maybe the fire dep’t & maybe cops is handled by private enterprise.Welfare is a function of the family & the church; so is education. Those who produce value get to eat; the rest, not so much…
