GOP Debate: Jon Huntsman Calls Out Rick Perry Over Mitt Romney Mormon Controversy
Former Utah Gov. Jon Huntsman provided some minor fireworks in an otherwise flat debate, Tuesday night, when he prefaced a question for Mitt Romney with a shot at Texas Gov. Rick Perry‘s connection to the anti-Mormon remarks of a supporter. “Since this discussion is all about economics, Governor Romney, I promise this will not be about religion,” Huntsman said, before adding the kicker,  ”Sorry about that, Rick.”
Huntsman, who is also a Mormon, strongly denounced Pastor Robert Jeffress as a “moron” for calling Mormonism a “cult” at the Values Voter Summit, and Romney has been critical of Perry for failing to repudiate the Pastor.
