GOP Debate: Jon Huntsman Calls Out Rick Perry Over Mitt Romney Mormon Controversy

video

Former Utah Gov. Jon Huntsman provided some minor fireworks in an otherwise flat debate, Tuesday night, when he prefaced a question for Mitt Romney with a shot at Texas Gov. Rick Perry‘s connection to the anti-Mormon remarks of a supporter. “Since this discussion is all about economics, Governor Romney, I promise this will not be about religion,” Huntsman said, before adding the kicker,  ”Sorry about that, Rick.”

Huntsman, who is also a Mormon, strongly denounced Pastor Robert Jeffress as a “moron” for calling Mormonism a “cult” at the Values Voter Summit, and Romney has been critical of Perry for failing to repudiate the Pastor.

Here’s the clip, from Bloomberg TV:

Huntsman is the only person worthy of the office at that table. Since the Republican party has been hijacked by loony tunes characters, I doubt that he will be nominated.

Vote for Huntsman for court jester of the US of A, he can replace Obama for that position.

Huntsman is the Republican stalking horse, usually a stalking horse goes after one opponent, not with Huntsman, he is a RINO, that makes Mittens look conservative.

“Plus, I have no respect for you. So I show none. Get used to it. That’s the way we are in Turkey. meanies.”

Why does a Turkish citizen care about US elections? Do you have a Democrat invite to come over for the elections or something?

    Huntsman and Romney are weird.

  • Texan

Does huntsman think he’s actually winning any votes or support by pandering to the far left loons? He’s batshit crazy,o wonder the progs love him!

  • Michelle

Says an obvious liberal.  Sorry, but you don’t get to pick our candidate, you have your own loser.

  • Exgoper

Huntsman’s appealing to sanity and reason? Didn’t anyone tell him that he’s running in a REPUBLICAN primary?

Denouncing utter bigotry makes one a “far left loon” and “batshit crazy”. Good to know.

The eight on stage continue their marketing of the president and each time they mention his name he gets publicity. Ron Christi gave me a chuckle with his quip but there was a debate in New Hampshire seemed the same as the others because they tried out their zingers and were more mellow than expected. Bachmann looked so old tonight! She tried her best to one up the others and tested some catch phrases but cratered again! This over sight Perry talked about is and was by appointees and close confidants in the Texas Legislature! That’s a warped wrap! Again president Obama won because they talked more about doing away with ObamaCare and his leadership abilities than any other thing except Cain’s 9-9-9 plan! They tried all of their sound bites and the crowd was very quiet as to listen to what they really wanted to say! The “Deer in the headlights” was felled by seven other deer running to get out of the way. President Obama gained more from their comments than they realize! Bachmann fell off the stage as she couldn’t say “ObamaCare” enough tonight and everyone on stage railed against Dodd-Frank! The TEA party led and infused Republican/GOP party are fighting the Sarbanes Oxley act of 2002 and the Frank Dodd Act because these two acts provide guidelines and restrictions put into place resulting from the recession of 2007 and 2008! There were major corporate and accounting scandals like Enron and Worldcom which cost investors billions. The Frank Dodd Act provided a sweeping overhaul of America’s financial regulatory system to consolidate agencies, regulate financial markets, implement consumer protection, provide financial crisis tools for the FDIC and improving accounting processes and tightening credit rating regulations.

BTW, the headline of this story is completely misleading. Huntsman made a dig at Perry, but his real jab was at Romney for Mitt’s history as a corporatist and job eliminator. That’s gonna be a huge problem for the ol’ Flip Flopper if he’s nominated.

and they are the sane ones

  • Shiek Yerbouti

Herman Cain stole his 9-9-9 plan.  The nine-nine-nine plan was first employed forty years ago by Colonel Klink.  He later taught the plan to a Sgt. Schultz or maybe it was Ed Schultz, regardless it was a failure.

Fact: If you watched to root on huntsman I can see why you found it a flat debate.

  • Pablo

A Turk? Complaining about our candidates while Recep Edrogan does his level best to drag Turkey, nay the entire region, back to the Middle Ages?

    It is to laugh.

  • Pablo

No, being a Democrat running in a GOP Primary does that.

  • Pablo

Obama’s going to run on his new plan: 30-30-30.

  • shonangreg

What Ali said is spot-on, David. Will you discuss the idea of Huntsman being the only sane candidate? Or are you content to just argue in AdHominemistan?

  • shonangreg

Jeesh, you don’t make any sense and still two people liked what you wrote. I guess the “Digg Patriots”  and their current imitators are willing to “like” anything.

  • shonangreg

Calling someone a RINO is just an easy way for “loyal” Republicans to avoid actual thinking.

Who says that people on the other side of the isle wouldn’t be willing to consider Huntsman if he got the general election? How about moderates as well? He’s a good mix of things without the Reagan crying and other problems that plague the rest of the field.

Please. In what way is he a democrat? That’s the biggest load of bull this side of calling people on the right, “Obama lite”s, because they aren‘t extreme enough. Is he a Democrat for believing in evolution, or for supporting civil unions? Obama doesn’t believe in civil unions between two people of the same sex, so is he a Republican just because of that issue?

Records don’t matter to you people, rhetoric does. It doesn’t matter if one is a true fiscal conservative if they aren’t boisterous enough to parrot the line.
