Gov. Rick Perry Can’t Remember His GOP Debate Answer On SNL Either

The endless Republican presidential debates are good news for someone — they provide plenty of fodder for Saturday Night Live sketches! Tonight was no different, as the Republican candidates gathered together to address the American people once again, and answer for the frankly shocking number of gaffes they’ve committed in the past week. Herman Cain, played by Kenan Thompson, responded to allegations about sexual harassment (“To recap — I forgot!”), and Bill Hader as Rick Perry promised that his performance in this debate would be the most impressive yet. Repeating his debate slip-up from earlier this week nearly verbatim, he blanked when he tried to name the third government department he was pledging to eliminate as president.

Perhaps I’m just grumpy, but there’s only so much you can do with presidential debate sketches. After a while they start to sound like parodies of past “SNL” sketches rather than the debates themselves. The show is obligated to cover them, though, and they did their best. The sketch started to pick up when they went off-script rather than recreating Perry’s embarrassing debate moment almost word for word, with Perry taking his clothes off as Andy Samberg’s Rick Santorum wept, and Jason Sudeikis’s Mitt Romney attempted to put Perry out of his misery…you know, with an actual bullet.
