Hillary Clinton Calls Herself ‘Part of the Resistance’, Trolls Trump Over Election Results
Hillary Clinton declared herself “part of the Resistance” during an interview with CNN’s Christiane Amanpour at a Women for Women event in New York.
In one of the first interviews since her bruising loss to President Donald Trump in the 2016 election, Clinton outlined some of her post-election plans, claiming “I’m now back to being an activist citizen, and part of the Resistance” (a reference to the movement seeking to fight back against Trump’s presidency).
Clinton also gave her thoughts on why she lost the election. After admitting she and her campaign made mistakes, she said the primary reason was “intervening events in the last ten days,” a reference to both FBI director James Comey and Wikileaks.
Clinton also couldn’t help but remind Amanpour and the audience of her popular vote win, saying “now, remember, I did win more that three million votes than my opponent.”
When Amanpour warned that her comments could provoke a tweet from Trump, Clinton responded:
“Fine. Better that than interfering in foreign affairs. If he wants to tweet about me I’m happy to be the diversion. Because we’ve got lots of other things to worry about.”
She then made sure to again troll Trump about the wide vote margin, to the audience’s amusement:
“He should worry less about the election — and my winning the popular vote — than doing some other things that would be important to the country.”
Although Clinton nabbed close to three million more votes than her opponent in the general election, Trump took 304 Electoral College votes, surpassing the 270 needed to win the election.
