Krauthammer: ISIS Has Succeeded in Spreading Terror, Even if Manchester Explosion Wasn’t an Attack

As Fox News reported on the deadly explosion in Manchester, UK, Charles Krauthammer remarked that the incident shows how much of an impact extremist terrorism has had on society.

Krauthammer was speaking with Martha MacCallum as they went over the explosion which left at least 19 people dead and scores more injured at an Ariana Grande concert. The syndicated columnist noted many people in Europe have been put on edge due to the recent acts of violence and terror that have taken place around the continent in recent months.

“Even if this was an accident, in some sense it’s a success and a fact of the terror war,” Krauthammer said. “Not that there hasn’t been stampedes before the era of terror, but it’s the first thing people think about in these attacks, and I think it contributes to the fact that you could have so many fatalities even if this was not a deliberate attack.”

MacCallum agreed that it fits with the fundamental purpose of terrorism, and she notes how recent attacks have made people nervous about attending public events that extremists might target. Krauthammer said that terrorism has become the instinctual assumption whenever a deadly mass event happens, even if people do not allow it to limit themselves in their daily lives.

As of this writing, British authorities are still on the scene, and they are treating the incident right now as a terrorist incident.
