Krauthammer: Well, So Much for That GOP ‘Civil War’ Narrative
Remember all the talk of a Republican civil war that would tear the party apart? Well, with the GOP poised to do very well in today’s midterm elections, Charles Krauthammer brought up this media meme and said all that chatter amounted to exactly nothing. Because for years, there has admittedly been a lot of intra-party fighting and squabbling over tactics and policy, and there’s definite tension between Republican establishment types and the more diehard conservative believers.
But, Krauthammer said, after some pretty tough primaries, instead of crying foul and refusing to back more moderate candidates, Republican voters are actually “rallying with the establishment.”
He explained, “Unless the Republicans have a bad night––in which case the civil war will start up tomorrow and it will be a bloody one––but if they have a reasonably good night, this bodes extremely well for 2016.”
That comment about a potential civil war if there’s a bad night echoes what Fox’s Brit Hume said earlier today about the GOP potentially doing worse than expected.
