Matthews: Calling Terrorists ‘Islamic’ Just Gives Them What They Want

Chris Matthews pushed back on the Republican insistence Democrats identify radical Islam as a threat to America by arguing that is exactly what the terrorists want.

Responding directly to Marco Rubio, Matthews asked tonight, “Why does Rubio want to have this as a clash of civilizations? I though that was what ISIS wanted, what al-Qaeda wants, to have the Islamic world fight with the Western world. Why would he want what they want?”

“Why say ‘Islamic’?” he added. “Why don’t we say ‘terrorist’?”

Howard Fineman said that Rubio’s trying to get as “apocalyptic” and “fearmongering” as possible by running to the far-right.

Matthews said that another problem in attacking an entire religion is that it includes all the Muslims who don’t reside in the Arab world.
