On CNN, An “Out Of Breath” Martin Savidge Tries His Best To Get Through The Headlines

video

Let this be a lesson to you all: Show up to work on time. CNN’s Martin Savidge appeared to have run straight from the make up chair to the camera this afternoon as he was entirely out of breath while trying to deliver the day’s headlines. It’s a brave attempt but, as you’ll see, not entirely successful.

Fortunately, we here at Mediaite are rarely on camera so we never have to worry about things like this. It’s good too since we typically run a mile on the official Mediaite regulation track between each post. That’s why we’re all in impeccable shape. Again, we’re rarely on camera so you’ll have to trust me that that’s true.

Check out the clip from CNN below:

Martin was huffing and puffing from running out of the CNN men’s locker room when Joy Behar burst in ready for action .

I’ve never met Mr. Savidge, but it’s like he had run in from a smoke.

Sounded like he was having a heart attack

I heard it was a tag team of Joy Behar AND Kathy Griffin and the poor guy set a new world sprint record!

He may have been experiencing a health issue there – I’d be hesitant to call this a “blooper” in the absence of knowing why he was out of breath.

ask any TV news hack what their least favorite invention ever created is, and they’ll say, ‘YouTube.’ Without it, these examples of stupidity and ineptness never get beyond the handful of people who witness them live. Now, these comical episodes live in infamy (“Boom! Goes the Dynamite”), much to the everlasting humiliation of the media hacks involved.

Martin Savidge is an ambulance chaser.

    That’s gotta make you tired.

I do wonder at what point the “reporter” just gets tired.

As an old IT person, I’m digging on the this…transparency sucks only to the people involved.

Viewing “The News” now is more complex and allows the viewer input that never was available in the past.

The burden of knowledge is on the subject.

I agree with your post. YouTube and good handheld cameras/smart phones have started to change media. In fact, now the “New Media” tries to link to what someone else said and everything is up “For Sale”?

What I have noticed on Mediaite is that they have some independent writers.

But at the same time, they just report snarky gossip.

So, do the writers have a mission?

Is this guy related to Jessica Savidge, former anchor?

    I forgot about Jessica Savidge.

Her personal life became apparent after the fact.

Now, there seems to be no border between personal and private.

    Twitter and….

I think she died in a car accident back in the early 80′s. Very popular anchor. “Savidge” is a relatively unusual last name, and this guy would be about the right age to be an offspring.

Just wondering. No point to be made.

Perhaps the technology that powers the media is the star versus the people that use the media.

    Happy Saint Stephen’s Day All.

May the Christmas spirit of giving to those we love, extend to all in need on this great day of benevolence. For the hungry, food, for the poor, the basics of life, for the emotionally over-wrought, our understanding and love, for the spiritually destitute, the gift of faith, but most of all, our time.

Way back when; I would watch the news with Jessica Savidge.

I was in Houston for several weeks in the 1980′s when Jessica was working at the CBS affiliate, She had to sub for the ill sports announcer. She did an amazing job.

    She was childless.

    Martin is a Quebecer.

That would seem to be true.

Sent one of the boys , Slade , down to the library to pick up the info on Jessica :

Thanks Big Eddie…I was trying to be a wee bit subtle. I know the story.

My point has always been…information should be constant; regardless of the source.

And yet I do enjoy certain ways of receiving the information.

So let’s see. The one thing he is paid to do, which is read the news from a teleprompter, he failed to do adequately. America is being conditioned to accept mediocrity in every aspect of our lives. You can start the list yourself; but the last entry in the list is the role of the US President. It looks like someone is trying to prove that “just anyone” can fill the role, and it doesn’t need to be anyone special. Because I could have read the news just as good as Savidge, in fact even better. And God knows I could have spent Christmas in Hawaii as well as the current non-occupant of the White House.

Been there done that .. when I was in radio in the 70′s and 80′s had to run from FM studio after recording news to newsroom to rip AP copy of the wire machine to AM studio to go live with sports.

Didn’t happen often but thank god for the cough button to help catch my breath and “Now this” to commercial … lol.

I’m trying not to take your statement out of context.

But, yes, America is being conditioned to have others think for themselves.

I might suggest he get himself in shape for those strenuous talks. Tell him to get off his ass and exercise!

    He has been spoofed.

  • newsjunkie

Poor guy… he was probably in the John reading the paper, checking Facebook on his blackberry while taking a dump, and he suddenly realized what time it was… blew out of the stall, ran down the hall, up the stairs and made it to the seat just in time.

  • Bunny

I wouldn’t assume he’s just lazy and needs to get in shape…he might have been ill. He sounded to me as if he were having an asthmatic attack. If he’s a smoker, recently had a respiratory infection or suffers from asthma in general, the unusually cold weather would’ve been enough to set off an episode of shortness of breath.

One thing I can say, having had asthma since childhood, is that the harder you try to *not* have the attack, the worse it will be when you inevitably can’t control it. I thought he did the best he could in the situation. I did wonder why, when he kept apologizing for the shortness of breath he was so obviously suffering, CNN didn’t go to commercial or a taped segment or have someone else step in. I felt badly for the guy!
