Pat Robertson Explains Why Good Christians Should Not Join Occupy Wall Street

video

Pat Robertson has already made it clear that he’s not a huge fan of the Occupy Wall Street protests. But still, a loyal viewer of The 700 Club wanted him to clarify so he or she wrote in to ask if it was okay for Christians to join in. Robertson helpfully explained that, no, that was not a good idea. As he pointed out, not only are they violent revolutionaries inspired by the hateful rhetoric of the President, they’re also just so darn angry all the time!

“I think this is a rebellion. I think it is atavistic. Nobody knows exactly what it is. They don’t know what they’re doing. Why are they there? Well, they’re just mad. Is it right for a Christian to get involved in a protest of anger? If you’re going to demonstrate, demonstrate for righteousness, demonstrate to lift the yoke of oppression, demonstrate to help those that are poverty stricken. But don’t just go out and mess up a park and just scream and tear up things.”

So true. Obviously, Christians should demonstrate to protect the downtrodden, but they should only do so with a smile on their faces. I mean, the meek are going to inherit the earth eventually. No need to make a big stink about it now.

Robertson’s reasons to protest are exactly why “good christians”should be there,so he should be supporting those who are there for that sort of purpose.

Of course not everybody there is there for those purposes nor has anyone really tried to organize this around real known principals and ideas so it leaves the doors wide open for the idiots and troublemakers.

But lets face it,Robertson is out of it,maybe a bit senile, and appeals only to the diehard religious right, which means he,like a host of other voices the media loves to pay attention to,is meaningless and unimportant.

  • Mencius

“Why would you want to criticize the money changers and get all mad about it? You know Jesus never did anything like that. Unlike Jesus, these radicals are trying to change this whole nation and that’s the bad part about it… Well, that’s it for today, folks. Call now to make your donations, and remember what Jesus said: It’s easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than a rich man like myself to get into heaven.”

Yes yes, low-IQ Conservatives/Republicans/Tea Baggers, listen to Pat Robertson. Even though you are poor now, you must not protest. Defend the system that has been pushing all the wealth to the top 1%. Remember that you too will become a billionaire one day (trickle down economy). You must protect the billionaires. Vote against your self interest right now.

  • Rex the Wonder God

This is wonderful news for Occupy Wall Street. Pastor Robertson knows full well that the vast majority of Americans are not Good Christians, which means he is endorsing that demonstrating for OWS is an acceptable activity for those hundreds of millions of Americans who are bad, not-Christian, bad Christians or at least not Good Christians.

    : )

  • Rex the Wonder God

“If you’re going to demonstrate, demonstrate for righteousness, demonstrate to lift the yoke of oppression, demonstrate to help those that are poverty stricken.”

That looks great. It’s almost like he read the OWS list of what they’re demonstrating for. Now, where can I go to demonstrate for those things. Got to put my thinking cap on. Think think thin. Surely there’s SOME group demonstrating for those Good Christian goals. Anyone out there know where such a group can be found. Definitely not OWS though, some OTHER movement that stand for exactly the same things but doesn’t call itself OWS, because Pat Robertson says, Sure, that’s what OWS stands for, but not OWS, because OWS is not for Good Christians. Help me out here, folks, because I’m so confused: It sounds like Mister Christ himself would be down there demonstrating with OWS.

    Why should they join OWS;

    There are rapes at OWS.

The thousands of arrests at OWS.

The signs attacking the police at OWS

    The anit-Jewish signs at OWS

The rampant drug abuse at OWS.

OWS is leaving a big mess at their “campsites”

How OWS is costing thousands of dollars for cash strapped cities across the nation.

How OWS is being supported by IRAN, the Nazi party and the Communist party.

How some Liberal run cities are letting OWS camp out for free on city property, but made the Tea Pary PAY for their rallies.

The anti-Capitalistic and anti-American message at OWS.

demonstrate to lift the yoke of oppression, demonstrate to help those
that are poverty stricken. But don’t just go out and mess up a park and
just scream and tear up things.”—- That is EXACTLY what the demonstration is about sir, if you have not noticed is probably because you are not paying attention, in which case one has to wonder WHY?WHY sir are YOU not a part of this movement which main objective is Wealth distribution fairness and Less Business in Government… those are just the main Ideas but as you can Imagine (i hope you can) these all trickle down in to a million different issues today. Yes Sir. People are angry, but is not something that has just flourished out of nowhere..because NOTHING does, everything has a root, a reason for being and existing and it truly saddens me that you would say that these people, your fellow Christians, your fellow Americans your fellow humans, are just angry for no real concise reason and are just messing things up for the sake of disruption… Sir. It is the State Governments and Law enforcement bodies that have done the “messing and tearing up things” they are the ones that have committed crimes against so many, violent life disrupting crimes and they are forgiven and rewarded… Is that what you preach? Power to the powerful? Oppression on the people? Forgiveness of their crimes cause of their economic status? Turn a blind eye to the oppression you speak we should demonstrate against but yet say is wrong when we do so?  No one in the movement has committed a crime worst than loitering in a public space, but the police…. They put a man in the hospital, they shot a marine in the head with a flash grande… but i suppose you think that is ok.

I’m replying to myself so that my comments stay together,
What I did see going on, were Wall Street types (Not the 1% but the 1% wannabes) going out of their way to harass the protesters. I did also note that there were many others around the park touting causes that had nothing to do with OWS and generally annoying the passers-by, sadly the media focuses on them and not the real issue.

  • Susy Linn

“Is it right for a Christian to get involved in a protest of anger? Common on Robertson, protect your people like Moses did. Corporate greed is injuring your people and families. Banks and mortgage compamies inflating housing requiring 2 income households and forcing mom to work. Pharmaceutical companies pumping out highly addictive pain medications killing our youth. Vaccines causing brain damage and learning disabilities, immune dysfunction. Families of learning disabled children have 85 percent divorce rate. How do you plan to convert thousands of low function autistics? CDC and FDA in bed with pharma trying to steal the supplement industry. Mansanto creating monstrocities in our food supply. we can go on and on.

You have absolutely no idea what you are talking about!  The demonstrations have been overwhelmingly peaceful, and almost all confrontations with police have been started by the police.  Tea Partiers disrupted town hall meetings, refusing to let members of Congress speak; brandished fire arms; displayed threatening and racist signs; and spit on members of Congress.  Yet the police never attacked them.  That’s because they are backed (in fact, bought and paid for) by big corporations.

If Christians had “righteous” protests, these protesters would look just like the present protesters…Just because one feels “pure” as a Christian , doesn’t mean that they look “pure”- they look like eveyone else…So Christians please protest against hunger, greed, corruption even if you will look like everyone else.

  • LOates

You obviously have little knowledge of the bible.  Jesus wasn’t involved in politics, He was angry with the moneychangers that had made a mockery of God’s Temple.    I didn’t need Pat Robertson to advise me not to join this group.  After researching it, learning what there objectives are (chaos), looking up one of their instigators on the internet ( his views were fueled by anger and racism), and thinking about what all is going on in the middle east, Egypt, and Libya, and seeing the kinds of ppl’s participating (unGodly in actions, christians should never be unequally yoked with unbelievers).  I have no doubt that this is a movement to distract americans from making real and good changes in our country, and that it may even be an action to provoke marshall law in america.  Godly men and women need to pray and seek God’s wisdom about how to respond to such protest and any others that arise.  Be very careful, we certainly don’t want to have a military state run by one person in America.  Be careful also who you pay attention to, remember history, Hitler began as a community organizer and incited hate in the ppl that had not, aganist the ppl that had.  Pablo said it well…read the 10th commandment.  Be led by God not your emotions.  Seek God, read his Word, pray, and then if led, act.  Heard a series of sermons last spring that were directions for these turbulent times.  Be sane, sober, intentional in supplication, and stretched out in love (to God and mankind).  Good words to live by.

For all those blasting this man’s statement – Can you please refute what he has said with fact, aren’t the protestors in fact, mad – isn’t that what the media said about the TP – can you explain what reforms they are seeking,(Oakland had a healthy group of full blown anarchists) how would the reforms be implemented, would they be temporary contingent on the health of the economy, should the government who willing turns to Wall Street, be in charge of the new raised taxes from the 1% wealthy or will a new Redistribution Czar (won’t need to approved by Congress) be in charge. Who is entitled to the money first? Would it be used to create jobs or just dolled out until it is overspent and then more money is needed until the top 5% are called upon to step up.  The poor – many of those protesting don’t appear ‘poor’, so that can’t be what they are protesting for right? I would imagine those who fall in that bracket are at work scraping by to make a living. Robertson is recommending a for a protest against poverty, not the disparity of class warfare pitching the have’s against the have nots, that only breeds jealousy and entitlement, not compassion. What’s wrong with compassion?

L.Oates….Maybe you should be the one who needs to read the Bible….My Bible states that Jesus was arrested by the Church leaders with officers. Later they took him back and forth to The Governor and the King too seek prosecution and later a Death Conviction…All political …..This wasn’t no church picnic L.O.

Robertson is what is wrong with Christianity. He takes up for the Money Changers because he IS ONE!!!!!!!  He went power crazy years ago, and cares not what the Bible says.  I am ashamed at sending him money years ago.  I saw him speak in person and looked into his eyes, he is not who he presents himself to be.

How many scriptures does it take for him to see the heart of Jesus?  Jesus told us to treat others as you would want yourself to be treated.  Not the way Ayn Rand’s idea that taking advantage of a weaker person makes you better.

Greed and selfishness are the sins that he refuses to mention.  I wonder why?

  • Cadlacdave

And the world is still flat….

  • Cadlacdave

Bush was President for not 1 but 2 terms so a majority of Americans are real to smart.

  • Cadlacdave

No doubt, Pat and his bunch of spiritual advisors have backed the warlords for quite a few years.   What kind of political & spiritual advise is given out by Pat the corporation Robertson.  Oh yeah also heard recently that corporattions are people.

  • Cadlacdave

    Isn’t true in all groups

  • Cadlacdave

You mean The Bush economy taken in out of context Reaganism trickling right down to the Obumer Administration.  Quite a mess the former leaders left the US citicizens wit…..

  • Cadlacdave

As Pat mite say, ‘ignorance is bliss”

  • Cadlacdave

Maybe Pat beliefs are far more complex than the mortals he teaches.  Dr. Zarcharius from ”The Planet of the Apes movies could be the teachings Pat has shared wit his followers for all these years.

  • Empulse

This is a MORAL & SPIRITUAL CRISIS perpetuated by WALL STREET GREED which has put the American way of life in jeopardy. How can anyone NOT stand up against this kind of corruption? It is not capitalism that is the problem, it is the LOVE of money which has been the root of evil, and the results to our economy have been catastrophic… from housing, to jobs, to student loans, to health care, etc etc. Does anyone think that Jesus would have turned a blind eye to this kind of social injustice? Whoever disagrees is obviously morally bankrupt or devoid of conscience.

  • Joan Kelly

    Loates,

Personally, I don’t think you or Pat Robertson would know a real Christian if they bit you on a**.  Love, in it’s truest form, does NOT blame – it just loves.

  • Joan Kelly

    Mike,

Thank you so much for the link!  I totally agree.

  • Joan Kelly

    Bob,

As well as “taking out” guys he perceives to be anti-Christian – like Hugo Chavez.  I shudder to think he leads people.

  • Joan Kelly

    I feel sorry for you.

  • Joan Kelly

Three quarters of what you’re seeing in locally run political TV ads are paid for by American For Prosperity, a Koch Brother funded organization that is intent on selling the middle class down the tubes to increase their profit margins.  Like being the 3rd or 4th wealthiest privately owned corporation in the US isn’t enough.

  • Joan Kelly

    howertons,

Please don’t ask her that, I’m tired of hearing the same old BS.  Smile.

Maybe breathing but definitely not thinking.

Should have been done ages ago.  And what about that preacher in Dallas Texas with the 24,000 sq ft home and the private airsrip with two private jets?  He begs little ladies to send in their social security too.

  • Anonymous

Why?  Do they have a TV program too?

  • Anonymous

Or like Herman Cain says “if you aren’t wealthy, it’s your own damn fault”.

  • Anonymous

That was funny – reminded me of that preacher down south who accidentally died of axphixation.  His name was Gary Aldridge.  He died with two scuba diver rubber suits on with a dildo shoved up his rear.  I understand he also had the diving mask on.  Google his name.  You will laugh at the hypocrisy of these guys.

Because, to be honest, some people- particularly women in that organization are like lemmings.  They are so gullible and can’t think for themselves.  The women also follow what Michelle Bachman was saying about “women being subservient to men”.  It may not be Sharia Law – but we can figure it is kinda like it.

It’s just a matter of time.  Lord knows there are some just like him to take his place.  I always liked and respected Billy Graham, but his son is nothing but a hateful racist.

Did someone forget to change Pat’s bed pan?

  • AliveStillKickin

    That sounds like a Pelosism.
    You’re no Christian.

We will not have overcome the evil one until 11-2-2012

  • AliveStillKickin

I just love it when liberals attempt to use quotes from The Bible.
Similar to a McDonald’s employee explaining rocket science.

Does anyone think Jesus would support Capitalism? By definition Capitalism is the exploitation of the labor of the many by the few. Your remember: chasing the moneychangers (Wall Street hedge fund parasites), from the temple, the rich getting to heaven like getting a camel through the eye of a needle, etc. Capitalism has served its progressive social function, time is now here to go beyond capitalism.

The problem is what he does mention. His characterization of the Occupy Movements around our nation, around the world is so ill-informed as to render him beyond being incomprehensible, we all know that, it places him in the beyond farce, into the dementia realm, frothing, mumbling non-sequitors, useless…yet again.

I’m one of the “people at these protests”, please provide us with “the real story about the last election”, with citations and evidence of course, you seem like just the type to have a well documented, well reasoned analysis, and while you’re at it, perhaps some explanation of the infantile disorder your name displays. It’s ok, evidence and information, clearly components we’re ALL interested in, right?

  • Anonymous

Some of your best friends are McDonald’s employees, right Alive? Such offensive anti-worker vitriol is shameful, no doubt you’re a manager at a “rocket science” reseach lab, couldgaladly exlpain the whole deal in a sentence or two..”StillKickin”, my ass, you are hemorhaging inanane and inhumane stupidities and biases at your fellow Americans. Despicable, we all know it, and somewhere in your heartless domain, so do you.

Thanks for the link, Pablo. Your characterisation. “Me,me,me,me…”, of what I read there is so utterly unhinged,mean-spirited and contradictory, that I’m now assuming you’re an Occupy sympathiser, a plant, and by misdirection, a clever effort to stimulate interest by the stupids, the Faux formations looking to buttress the non-material basis for the lies and stupidities we see regurgitated by Robertson, Beck, O’Rielly et al. Good work, I needed to see the photos and the one-page written stories by these wonderful folks once again, that you have now led hundreds too..A public service, surley not your first….

You need to read and listen to the rascist rantings of Billy Graham recorded in Nixon’s Oval Office. Released recently. Another Elmer Gantry hoaxer…

Clearly he didn’t “learn” about OWS, even Faux News would have raised this decrepit level of imaginings beyond what we read here.

  • Anonymous

“Tea Party” largely, corporate funded caucasian management flunkeys for Capitalism, just want more of the accumulated stolen wealth. Must be many with shocking arrival of Authenticity Envy. OWS is real, material, supported by the majority of the country, the 99% slogan is powerful and understood by the grass roots, including deluded pro-corporate Tea Party sympathizers. The “violence” at OWS is NYPD,and OPD provoked, rightist, MSM propaganda that is NOT WORKING, except for “useful idiots” who, as always, project violent fantasies to prompt the waiting troops to crack down harder. Look to collapse in Europe, (You know where that is, right?),Lala, Iceland, Spain, Italy, Greece, Portugal, England in severe crisis, coming this way. The entire capitalist world is in crisis brought on by avaricious, greedy hedge fund, bankster pigs, whose time is up! Looting by the bourgeois, Class warfare resisted from below. Get ready, OWS is a few weeks in existence, and the future is all! OWS started beautiful and will be more beautiful long after you begin to learn it’s powerful message: Power to the People. Got a problem with that?

This isa  convenient locus for shills on the right to prance and pretend. Worth monitoring for glimmers of pseudo-intelligence displayed by reactionaries, thinly shrouded with self-important “media” savvy. Dismissable, but considering the historically validated danger of the proto-fascist formations in process, the usual Birchites, the Know Nothings, post-Reagan iterations of the rise of the Right, Fox News threat to democracy, I find it valuable to be cognizant of those expressed here at this site. Even fun to “poke the monkey” once in a while.

Fact:Nonsensical blatherings from the syntactically challenged are not worth the effort to reply to.

I know.  I guess the acorn doesn’t fall that far from the old oak tree.  I was thoroughly disappointed but I’m not that much of a believer any more.  I have seen too much hypocrisy among those who attend church to question what it is really about.

Social commentator and former alter-boy George Carlin sums it up, “Think about it. Religion has actually convinced people that there’s an invisible manliving in the sky who watches everything you do, every minute of every day. Andthe invisible man has a special list of ten things he does not want you to do.And if you do any of these ten things, he has a special place, full of fire andsmoke and burning and torture and anguish, where he will send you to live andsuffer and burn and choke and scream and cry forever and ever ’til the end of time!

He loves you. He loves you, and He needs money! He always needsmoney! He’s all-powerful, all-perfect, all-knowing, and all-wise, somehow just can’t handle money! Religion takes in billions of dollars, they pay no taxes,
and they always need a little more. Now, you talk about a good bull*** story.
    Holy S***!”

There are rapes in the US Army
There area atni jewish screeds on Fox Nation
There is rampant drug use on the Excellence in Broadcasting network.
