Roger Goodell: We Wanted Rice Video but Weren’t ‘Granted That Opportunity’
NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell spoke out publicly to CBS News tonight on Ray Rice and questions over whether the NFL had previously seen the video of Rice assaulting his wife. And Goodell says they wanted the video, they just weren’t “granted that opportunity.”
In a clip from the interview, airing in parts tonight on CBS Evening News and tomorrow on CBS This Morning, Norah O’Donnell asks Goodell whether he had seen the video. Some reports have cast doubt on the NFL ever seeing the video, let alone asking for it, which is what TMZ is reporting. This has all led to questions over whether Goodell was negligent and should lose his job.
Goodell, however, said, “We had not seen any video tape of what occurred in the elevator. We assumed that there was a video, we asked for the video, we asked for anything that was pertinent, but we were never granted that opportunity.”
