Stewart Takes on British Media’s ‘Devastating Case of CNN-itis’

Jon Stewart noticed something disturbingly familiar about local coverage of last week’s prime minister election in Great Britain. “The holograms, the virtual sets,” he slowly realized. “The British media has contracted a devastating case of CNN-itis.”
“It’s when a news organization spends a great deal of time creating visuals and set pieces, which have no discernible purpose and shed no perceptible light and actually distract you from what it was they were trying to find out,” the host explained. “But you know something? No one can actually challenge the master.”
From there, Stewart turned to CNN’s Richard Quest, who would rather show viewers the “million dollar shot” of the London Eye than answer actual questions about the possibility that Great Britain could leave the EU.
Stewart also zeroed in on one part of the victorious conservative government’s platform: a repeal of Tony Blair’s ban on hunting foxes with dogs. “I almost hate to say this but, leave fox alone,” he said to cheers from the crowd. “Fox never hurt anybody.”
