The Simpsons Use Chalkboard Gag to Reference Prediction Trump Would be President
The Simpsons got super-meta on Sunday when they admitted that they predicted the political rise of Donald Trump 16 years ago.
The show devoted plenty of time to lampooning the firebrand plutocrat throughout the election, but last night, they had to face the music with the rest of the world. True to form, the show used their opening credits to show Bart Simpson doing lines on a chalkboard, where the message of the day was “being right sucks.”

The Simpsons made their prediction in the episode Bart to the Future, where Bart imagines that his sister Lisa will become America’s “first straight female president.” President Simpson is the successor of the Trump years, during which, the oceans dried up, America was left with a budget crunch, and there’s “a generation of ultra-strong super-criminals” running amok.
Dan Greaney, who wrote the episode, talked about it earlier this year, and said his “vision of America going insane” was meant to be a cautionary tale.
