I watch Nancy Grace every so often. While I may not like things about her or her show, what she does, day in and day out, has got to be one of the toughest jobs in the world. Cases like these have happened over and over. This is how our justice system is built. Is it perfect? no. But it provides a fair trial, where the prosecution and the defense is given equal amount of time to speak out and point out the evidence.. First off, IMHO the Prosecution overcharged, and that is not just me but comes from some of the most respected judicial minds in American, including Alan Dershowitz. Capital murder is extremely difficult to prove to a jury – and keep in mind a death penalty case carries a jury of 12, and Aggrevated Child Abuse charge would have carried only a jury of 6, less of a burden for the Prosecutors to convince.

By the same token, there are people in jail today, on death row today, convicted on less evidence that the State had against Casey Anthony. In Illinois this week a man was charged in a case from 1957 on merely a un-used train ticket that contradicted his alibi – no body, no cause of death, no time of death etc. –

I think this case represents two elements – 1) Overzealous Prosecutors office and 2) contrary to a previous poster’s comment, cases like this in fact DO NOT happen everyday. 99% of the cases in this country are not even one iota as high profile as this case was, therefore Casey Anthony, who has no job, and whose parents are obviously not millionaires, had access, pro-bono access, to a highly competant Defense Team that 99% of the people in this country could never dream of – not just lawyers, but investigators behind the scenes, the Defense’s own forensic experts, jury selection consutants, etc, etc.. If Casey Anthony were simply some poor, fat person she would be headed to, at the least, prison for the rest of her life, as people everyday are sentenced to without so much as a blip on the news. THAT is the reality of our legal system. Period.

BTW, to those who castigate the TV media for convicting Casey Anthony in the news, including Mr. Mason, whose post-verdict statements were unprofessional and dignified IMHO, because it was that VERY COVERAGE that gave the case such a high profile status whicht ALLOWED Casey Anthony FREE ACCESS to the defense team she had that was able to get her off!! Ironically, Casey should be THANKING Nancy Grace, et al, for essentially handing her a competant defense team and not some overworked, inexperienced state provided council or some other crappy lawyer.
