‘Hey Hey! Ho Ho! Thank You Joe It’s Time To Go!’ Protesters Gather Outside White House Calling For Biden To Drop Out

A group of protesters self-identifying as Democrats held a protest outside the White House on Saturday calling on President Joe Biden to drop out of the presidential race against Republican nominee Donald Trump.

The group behind the protest is Pass the Torch, a new Democratic political action committee created as “a grassroots campaign to call on President Biden to step aside as the nominee for President and support the candidate best able to beat Trump.”

On Friday, the organized ran television advertisements calling on Biden to step aside in the Washington D.C. area and in the president’s home state of Delaware.

By Saturday afternoon, the group took to the front of the White House chanting, “Hey, hey! Ho ho! Thank you Joe, it’s time to go!” Semafor’s David Weigel posted footage of the protest on X, formerly Twitter.

“We need a presidential nominee who has the best chance to beat Trump, and an increasingly large majority of Democrats believe that President Biden is not that candidate and should step aside,” said Aaron Regunberg, a Pass The Torch member, in a statement.

Regunberg added, “Tens of thousands of Democratic voters have made phone calls, sent emails, and held actions in battleground states through Pass the Torch. But the President still hasn’t gotten the message. That’s why we’re organizing something that’s harder to ignore—a demonstration in front of the White House. Because we have not resigned ourselves to a second Trump presidency. We still have time to avert catastrophe and change course.”

The organization sent out their own posts on social media showing protesters calling on Biden to move aside due to his “failing poll numbers” and the threat of a Trump presidency.
