Whoops! CNN Has No Idea Voter It’s Talking to Is Actually Leading Biden Write-In Campaign

Like the other cable news networks, CNN has blanketed New Hampshire ahead of the state’s primary on Tuesday night. While former President Donald Trump seems poised to win the Republican contest, President Joe Biden will need a write-in campaign to win. That effort is being led by a former Democratic official whom CNN just happened to speak to without realizing it.

Whether Biden wins, however, is ultimately immaterial because the state does not have binding delegates at the Democratic National Convention. Last year, the Democratic National Committee designated the South Carolina primary as the first in the nation. That didn’t fly with New Hampshire lawmakers, who did not change a state law requiring that it hold the first primary. The DNC stripped the state of binding delegates in response and Biden – who supported the switch to South Carolina – did not attempt to appear on the ballot.

It is unclear if a write-in campaign pushed by Biden supporters will be sufficient to defeat Democratic presidential candidates Rep. Dean Phillips and Marianne Williamson.

On Tuesday morning, a CNN reporter (who was off-camera) spoke with an unidentified woman at a polling station in Manchester.

“Wrote in Joe Biden,” the woman said when asked how she voted.

“Were you disappointed that his name actually wasn’t on the ballot, or was that a secondary issue to you?” he inquired.

“Disappointed but very happy to vote for him by writing his name in,” she replied.

“Obviously, Dean Phillips hit this state very, very hard,” he went on. “Did any of that campaigning get through to you, matter to you? Or were you unwavering?”

“I was unwavering and I found him annoying,” she answered.

The woman’s responses came as no surprise to those steeped in New Hampshire politics. As James Pindell of The Boston Globe, noted, the woman is former New Hampshire Democratic Party Chair Kathy Sullivan, who is spearheading Biden’s write-in campaign in the state.

“This is a riot, Pindell wrote. “@CNN has zero clue who they were talking to and @NHKathySullivan went with the bit and just answered questions. Still laughing over here.”
