ESPN’s Adam Schefter Reacts to ‘Sickening’ Chiefs Parade Shooting: ‘This Is Our Country Today’

Adam Schefter reacted to the mass shooting at Wednesday’s Kansas City Chiefs Super Bowl parade by lamenting the many places where such violence has taken place – and will continue to do so in the future.

At least one person was killed and more than 10 were wounded when at least one person opened fire around Union Station in Kansas City as the parade celebrating the Chiefs victory was wrapping up.

Given the venue, the incident put ESPN in the unusual position of covering a mass shooting. Schefter, the longtime NFL reporter, offered his thoughts.

“We just take this story and we extrapolate it now out to a Super Bowl parade,” he began. “We could be talking about this particular event at a school. We could be talking about it at a mall. We could be talking about it at a nightclub. We could be talking about it at any facet of America. This is our country today, unfortunately…”

Schefter went on to state there are far too many shootings in the country and that, obviously, this will not be the last one by any means.

“These images are happening everywhere all the time, every day, every week in this country,” he continued. “It’s disgusting. It’s sickening. It’s enough. How many times do we have to see this everywhere? So, today, it’s the Chiefs’ turn. It’s at a Super Bowl parade – tomorrow, it will be somewhere else. Somebody else will lose their life, and we will continue to come on and try to make sense of something that is inexplicable.”
