Local News Outlet Forced to Delay Morning Broadcasts Following Bomb Threat

A local news broadcast in Michigan was delayed on Friday following a bomb threat.

9&10 News out of Cadillac, Michigan reported on Friday that their morning broadcast of Michigan This Morning was pushed back after a report that a 64-year-old man was on the news outlet’s property and he had a bomb. The suspect from Lake was arrested and later identified as David Michael Chiesa. Chiesa was arraigned in 84th District Court on the charge of false report of a bomb or harmful device.

Report of the bomb came to the police shortly after midnight and the Michigan State Police, sheriff, fire department, and more responded to the scene. Bomb squads and K-9s searched the property while entrances were blocked off. No explosive devices were found and the suspect was taken into custody without incident. Authorities said he was not “forthright with a whole lot of information.”

The Michigan This Morning crew regained access to the building at 3:30 a.m., pushing the broadcast to approximately 6 a.m.

Sheriff Trent Taylor said there is “no motive” and the investigation is ongoing.

“No motive, no motive at all. Communication with the suspect was difficult,” he said. “He wasn’t forthright with a whole lot of information, but [it’s] still under investigation.”
