Forty-two-year-old Kevin Watson of Chicago was shot and killed Wednesday night, all while livestreaming on Facebook, police say.

The shooting took place just a couple of blocks from a South Austin police station at 6:14 pm. Police confirm Watson was streaming from inside his car when another vehicle approached him.

Watson’s video shows the moment he sees a car pull up to his driver’s seat window. He can be heard asking, “What’s up, bro?” in a worried voice before he hurries to get out of the car, and then, “Hell no.” Gunshots start shortly after, followed by the sound of a vehicle speeding away.

Police verified that Watson suffered a gunshot wound to the chest and died later at Mt. Sinai Hospital. They added that they have not yet identified a motive for the shooting.

Watson’s livestream has since been viewed more than 2.5 million times on Facebook.

His sister, Shamika Watson, told NBC News that Watson was her “best friend.” She believes he was targeted by someone he knew.

“My brother trusted too many people,” she said. “My brother kept himself up, he loved to dress, he loved to look nice, and a lot of people hated on him for that.” She added that she “just wants the killer to be caught.”

The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office reported 192 homicides in Chicago from January 1, 2025, to June 30.

Just this week, President Donald Trump threatened to deploy the National Guard to Chicago, New York City, and Los Angeles after taking federal control of the police department in Washington, D.C.
