WATCH: Police Cam Shows What It’s Like To Flip Your Car During a High-Speed Chase
A police chief remarkably walked away with only minor injuries after his cruiser was caught on dash cam flipping over multiple times.
“God really took care of me and protected me, had his hand on me,” Tonitown, Arkansas Police Chief Corey Jenison told NewsNation. “I walked away from it. I had a couple small scrapes and bruises, but no broken bones, nothing significant.”
The rollover happened during a high-speed car chase as police pursued a stolen U-Haul van from Oklahoma into Arkansas. The police chief’s car clipped the back of the van in an attempt to stop it, causing the cruiser to roll over several times.
The chief said this was his first time experiencing a rollover. He described the PIT maneuver he used to stop the van.
“We were notified of this pursuit that actually started in Oklahoma, so it had been going for some time, and making it into our city. Where it began was roughly 60-miles away. We knew if it made it to us, we were going to make a decision as safe as possible, to end it. I ended up being in the lead of it, and I had a brief window of opportunity on the interstate where other traffic wasn’t at risk or in danger of performing that maneuver, and I took an opportunity at it. Obviously, the outcome resulted in rolling the car. It’s not a common result of doing this maneuver. It was performed a little hastily.”
Once the driver was finally stopped, police said they found firearms and Molotov cocktails in the van.
“There was gasoline inside the vehicle, devices that could have caught on fire and potentially exploded,” Jenison said. “It was unknown at the time of doing the maneuver, during the chase. So, it’s just one of the things, the risks you face in doing this.”
