Kamala Harris Now Overwhelming Favorite in Major Betting Market to Be Democratic Presidential Nominee

Vice President Kamala Harris is now overwhelming the betting favorite to be the Democratic presidential nominee after President Joe Biden dropped out.

On Sunday afternoon, Biden officially ended his bid for a second term following weeks of pressure from Democrats to resign before the convention. The president’s poor performance against former President Donald Trump at CNN’s debate last month led to dozens of lawmakers within his own party calling on him to step aside.

In his statement ending his campaign, Biden did not offer an endorsement to Harris or any other potential Democratic successor; however, in a follow-up statement he backed Harris.

According to the major betting market PredictIt, Harris is the favorite to win the nomination at convention. Just behind Harris is former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton followed by California Gov. Gavin Newsom, Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, and former First Lady Michelle Obama.
