Alec Baldwin’s Trump Explores a Wonderful Life Where He Was Never President in SNL Cold Open
Alec Baldwin reprised his role as Donald Trump for an It’s a Wonderful Life themed cold open featuring the return of Matt Damon as Brett Kavanaugh.
The sketch starts with SNL’s Trump telling an angel named Clarence — as played by Kenan Thompson — that everything was going wrong.
“It’s awful. Everything is falling apart. Sometimes I wish I had never been president,” Trump says.
Trump then runs into people from his presidential life who seem to be thriving since they are not in Trump’s POTUS orbit.
Sarah Sanders, it seems, has found a career doing PR for brands in crises, like romaine lettuce and Ashley Madison.
Kellyanne Conway — played by Kate McKinnon — looks healthy and more vibrant, as Trump notes.
“That’s because I’m actually no longer eaten from within by lies,” she says. “And after we lost the campaign, the devil did give me my soul back. So — excuse me, I have to go find my husband, who I speak to now.”
It seems Trump is also still besties with Michael Cohen who also looks happier since he’s not headed to jail.
Damon as Kavanaugh is also his full — and cheerful — beer-bro self.
“Me on the Supreme Court? With my temperament, are you insane?” he says, before offering a beer-a-day calendar.
This alternative reality though still has Robert Mueller, who seems to know everything and has a lot of time on his hands since he is not, in his words, investigating an “idiot.”
“Listen, Donald, every time a bell rings, someone you know quits or goes to jail,” Kellyanne says, before Trump calls it a “Christmas miracle” that he is president again.
