WATCH: Sec. Deb Haaland Staffer Gets Caught Crawling Behind Desk in Interview with Seth Meyers
Interior Secretary Deb Haaland (D-NM) sat down for an interview with Seth Meyers on Wednesday night, but it was slightly derailed just one minute in.
Haaland, the first Native American Cabinet secretary, began by describing her role in the Biden administration and the historical significance of getting sworn in by the first female Vice President.
“We manage millions of acres of public lands, waters, natural resources for the benefit of American people,” she explained of her role. “We conserve those resources so that future generations have them and we honor the trust and treaty applications of Indian tribes.”
As Haaland began to highlight the importance of her confirmation, Meyers could not help but cut her off, as a staffer on his hands and knees popped into the shot while holding a camera.
“I’m sorry, secretary. I’m going to interrupt you real quick,” Meyers said. “You have a staffer who fully crawled on the carpet behind you and it is the greatest thing I’ve ever seen.”
“Sir. Sir. We know you’re behind the desk, ok,” Meyers added, prompting the staffer to continue to make his way off screen. “Thank you very much.”
Meyers then asked Haaland if she even knows who that man is, adding, “And, are those someone else’s glasses he’s wearing?”
Haaland revealed that she does know who he is, as they do not let strangers sneak around their offices.
“We’ve had giant comedy stars on this show and not one of them has thought to have somebody crawl behind the background,” Meyers joked.
