Yes, this is a true headline, and no, Gordon Ramsay won’t be the one yelling at your nice grandma: the chef all over your televisions is currently casting a reality competition show for the Food Network, set in the food court of Alabama’s largest mall. The catch: you’ve gotta be from Alabama to apply. (Man, North Dakota never gets any cool competitions like this!)
The format for the show, tentatively titled Food Court Wars: two teams, each team formed through pre-existing relationships (the site suggests “friends, families, couples, coworkers”), must develop and run a locally-inspired mall eatery in the food court of what we assume is the Riverchase Galleria. The team who ends up victorious wins their restaurant and the location, rent-free, for a full year. A free restaurant in a huge mall, just by having people stick cameras in your face? Not a bad deal! Especially when nice person Tyler Florence is set to host!
But! Not only do you have to be from Alabama to be eligible, you and your team “MUST BE BASED & HAVE TIES TO THE LOCAL ALABAMA REGION!” Also, when you describe the restaurant in your application, you need to tell the casting team “HOW IT’S GOING TO BE LOCALLY INSPIRED!” OKAY WE GET IT. WE NEED TO BE COMPLETELY AND UTTERLY FROM ALABAMA. THAT’S COOL, GUYS.
So for all you Alabama chef-wannabes — and it can be anyone! You don’t need to have restaurant experience! –sign up through here, but hurry, since the deadline is Friday, July 13th. Protip: WRITE YOUR APPLICATION IN ALL CAPS. THEY SEEM TO LIKE THAT.
