CNN Airs Clip Of Very First Broadcast As Network Bids Adieu To Atlanta Headquarters
CNN aired a clip of its very first broadcast from nearly 43 years ago as the network marked its final show from CNN Center in Atlanta on Friday.
“We anchor the show out of New York, but the control rooms of this show and much of our editorial staff has always been in Atlanta at that iconic building at the CNN Center, also known as CNN’s World News Headquarters,” said anchor Kate Bolduan.
“Starting Monday, our team there will move to a new home just a couple miles away. But…the new home is actually the place where CNN founder Ted Turner started the network back in 1980.”
The network then rolled the clip that showed original CNN anchors Donna Kelly, Brian Nelson, and Reid Collins on the set of the morning show Daybreak, followed by a live shot of the current Atlanta staff.
“As our team says goodbye to the CNN Center, here is a live look at the warriors behind the scenes. Our control room team and a few others…for the final hoorah,” Baldouan said, adding, “A moment to mark in CNN’s history. Onward and upward, team.”
Billionaire entrepreneur Turner founded CNN as the very first 24-hour news channel. According to his bio on CNN.com, “During the next two decades, the company built a portfolio of unrivaled cable television news and entertainment brands and businesses, including CNN Headline News, CNN International, TNT, Cartoon Network and Turner Classic Movies.”
CNN’s parent company is now Warner Bros. Discovery, Inc.
