Musician Billy Joel announced on Friday that he is cancelling all upcoming tour dates following a brain disorder diagnosis.
“I’m sincerely sorry to disappoint our audience, and thank you for understanding,” Joel said in a statement.
The 76-year-old musician, who is a six-time Grammy winner, was recently diagnosed with normal pressure hydrocephalus (NPH). According to the public statement, the condition has been “exacerbated” by recent performances. NPH can affect hearing, vision, and one’s balance. Joel had summer concerts planned for New York, D.C., Toronto, and more. There are 17 shows in total that have been cancelled. Fans will be receiving an automatic refund for their tickets.

The “Piano Man” and “Uptown Girl” singer suffered a fall on stage at the Mohegan Sun resort in Connecticut in February. In video captured by a fan, Joel can be seen throwing his microphone stand to the audience when he loses his balance and falls backward onto his side. Joel did bounce back from the fall and continued the concert where he was energetically dancing for the crowd.
he is now “undergoing specific physical therapy” as part of his recovery. Joel is “thankful for the excellent care he is receiving and is fully committed to prioritizing his health. He is grateful for the support from fans during this time and looks forward to the day when he can once again take the stage,” according to the public statement.
