WATCH: Galaxy of Stars Join Tenacious D for Epic ‘Time Warp’ Cover — Including Mayor Pete and Elizabeth Warren
Tenacious D rockers Jack Black and Kyle Gass have released a cover of The Rocky Horror Picture Show’s “Time Warp” to benefit Rock the Vote. The star-studded music video includes appearances by Sen. Elizabeth Warren, Mayor Pete Buttigieg, and Susan Sarandon – one of the stars of the 1975 cult classic.
The politically-driven cover of “Time Warp” featured a subtle change in lyrics during the last chorus, calling on people to make “a jump to the left and not a step to the right” rather than “and then a step to the right.”
Black and Gass can be seen decked out in all kinds of Rocky Horror attire, channeling various characters from the movie musical.
In addition to former presidential candidates Warren and Buttigieg, Tenacious D enlisted many other famous faces to help “Rock-y the vote.” Some of the stars who make appearances in the music video include Sarah Silverman, Jamie Lee Curtis, George Takei, Phoebe Bridgers, Karen O, John Waters, Ezra Miller, Eric Andre, and Michael Peña, to name a few.
Sarandon might be the most notable of all the celebrity cameos. In addition to starring in the original Rocky Horror Picture Show, the actress backed Bernie Sanders during the Democratic presidential primaries. She has since voiced her support for Joe Biden.
Black and Gass had originally planned on touring as Tenacious D to support the Democratic party amid the presidential election. The tour, dubbed The Purple Nurple Tour – Twisting Hard to the LEFT, was canceled due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
