Trump Insists He Was Not Behind Colbert Firing — Before Wondering ‘Who Will Go First’ Between Kimmel and Fallon

President Donald Trump denied being “solely responsible” for Stephen Colbert’s ouster from CBS — but then suggested ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel and NBC’s Jimmy Fallon might be next.
In a post to his Truth Social platform on Tuesday, the president claimed he wasn’t behind the Colbert firing — despite his FCC commissioner seeming to leave the door open on that possibility during a Fox News interview late last week.
“Everybody is saying that I was solely responsible for the firing of Stephen Colbert from CBS, Late Night,” Trump wrote. “That is not true! The reason he was fired was a pure lack of TALENT, and the fact that this deficiency was costing CBS $50 Million Dollars a year in losses — And it was only going to get WORSE!”
Last Thursday on Fox’s America’s Newsroom, FCC Commissioner Brendan Carr said, “I think there’s a lot of consequences that are flowing from President Trump deciding, I’m not gonna play by the rules of politicians in the past and let these legacy outfits dictate the narratives in the terms of the debate, and he’s succeeding. Just look at what’s happening. NPR has been defunded, PBS has been defunded, Colbert is getting canceled. You’ve got anchors in news media personalities losing their jobs.”
But after Trump tried to wash his hands of the Colbert ouster, he predicted the near-immediate demise of the shows hosted by Kimmel and Fallon.
“Next up will be an even less talented Jimmy Kimmel, and then, a weak, and very insecure, Jimmy Fallon,” Trump wrote. “The only real question is, who will go first? Show Biz and Television is a very simple business. If you get Ratings, you can say or do anything. If you don’t, you always become a victim. Colbert became a victim to himself, the other two will follow.”
