WATCH: First Footage of Trump Biopic ‘The Apprentice’ Is Released

After finally getting a release date, The Apprentice gave its audience a first glimpse of the controversial biopic about former President Donald Trump.

In the clip, released by Briarcliff Entertainment on Tuesday, a young Trump (Sebastian Stan) is in the back of a car with his mentor, lawyer Roy Cohn (Jeremy Strong). Cohn directs Trump while the latter is on the phone, pushing him on what to say to the person on the other end of the line. Cohn ends up taking control of the call, after which Trump apologizes. After the call is over, Cohn tells Trump: “You’ve got a ways to go, but you’re learning.”

This clip is the first footage from The Apprentice after several attempts by Trump’s campaign and supporters to quash the movie’s release ahead of November’s presidential election. Billionaire investor Dan Snyder, a Trump supporter, was reportedly “furious” at the unflattering portrayal of Trump after believing it would be quite the opposite when he helped fund the production.

Last week, it was announced that Briarcliff Entertainment bought out Snyder’s interest in the The Apprentice, clearing the way for a pre-election release date of October 11. The Apprentice, directed by Ali Abbasi and written by Gabriel Sherman, received an eight-minute standing ovation at the Cannes Film Festival when it premiered in May.
