What We Know About Joe Biden’s Law & Order: SVU Cameo

As you probably already know, Vice President Joe Biden will appear on Law & Order: SVU on September 28th, in an episode about backlogged rape kits. Biden has always been an advocate for the victims of sexual assault, so the episode is fitting. Though we’re still a few days away from the air date, The Daily Beast has seen the episode. Here is what we know about the episode.

First, Biden is playing himself. Also, he’ll be one of the first people you see in the episode. The episode begins with him honoring Detective Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay) and her team for their progress in testing backlogged rape kits. He says, “My Dad used to have an expression. He said, ‘The greatest sin any person can commit is an abuse of power,’ and the greatest abuse of power is rape.’ It takes women a long time to heal. And when the victim isn’t believed, when she goes through the invasive process of having a rape kit put together, and then it’s stuck on a shelf somewhere, and then the rape kit is never ever tested, well, we fail. We fail her. We fail so many women.” Preach.

The episode is called “Making a Rapist,” and it’s inspired by Netflix’s Making a Murderer. It tells the story of Sean Roberts, who gets to leave prison once his accuser’s rape kit is tested and it’s determined he didn’t commit the crime. He’s suing the NYPD, and is friendly with his former accuser. Then, the accuser’s sister is raped and murdered. Sean is the primary suspect.

According to The Daily Beast, the episode comes with the twists and turns we’ve come to expect from an episode of SVU.

September 28th can’t come soon enough.
